Metropolitan Laurus is slipping it in -

"His Eminence Laurus confirmed that ROCOR hierarchs believe it would be logical to crown the reunification process with the convocation of an All-Russia Church Council."

Is this synonymous with the Council of Bishops? Or is this testing the water for an already done deal regardless of its illegitmacy as Archbishop Agathangel explained in his Statement?:

"The resolution of the IV All-Diaspora Council, accepted practically unanimously (with but a few abstaining or voting against), states that such a union is possible in the future, after the elimination of the differences between us of a fundamental nature (ecumenism was mentioned), and that this union can become final only at the Local Council of the entire Russian Church, with the participation of clergy and laity."

and:

2Furthermore, we recognize that according to the decision of the Local Council of 1918, the supreme authority in the Church belongs to the Local Council with the participation of bishops, clergy and Laity. Only such a Council is empowered to select a church administration which may act in the inter-conciliar period."

and:

"The Act, however, without basis places one part of the Church above the other and actually makes the authority of one of the parts of the ROC the Supreme Church Authority (commemoration of the head of one part of the Church by the other part, obtaining of Holy Myrrh, the confirmation of hierarchs, etc.,), which is illegitimate."

Russian Metropolitan in US hails unity with Moscow Patriarchate

06.06.2006, 08.49

JORDANVILLE, NY, June 6 (Itar-Tass) - First Hierarch of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia (ROCOR), Metropolitan Laurus, sees the Lord’s mercy in the results of ROCOR’s recent All-Diaspora Council and the Council of Bishops that adopted a line at canonical and eucharistic reunification with the Russian Orthodox Church reporting to Moscow Patriarchate.

As he spoke in an exclusive interview with Itar-Tass in the Holy Trinity monastery in Jordanville, NY, His Eminence Laurus said he was glad to see those results.

He indicated, however, he could not tell yet where, when and how the much-hoped-for reunification might take place.

“We didn’t discuss anything on the issue yet,” His Eminence said speaking of himself and ROCOR’s other hierarchs.

In any case, he proceeds from the assumption that a bilateral commission on negotiations will get together soon again.

The commission has the power of refining the Act on Canonical Communication between the two Churches and to settle some outstanding problems.

Commission members will also have to map out the procedure for signing the document, as His Eminence Laurus believes a special gala ceremony must be organized for it.

He declined to discuss in detail the problems still requiring coordination but singled out ecumenism – the practice of communications among and major international gatherings of the Christians of all denominations.

Such practices “give rise to recurrent questions,” His Eminence said. ROCOR rejects those communications.

All references to the power that dialogue between various confessions ostensibly gives in defending the positions of Eastern Orthodoxy do not look convincing, he said.

Suffice it to recall that none of the partners in that fictitious dialogue changed over to the positions of Orthodox Christianity over the past decades, His Eminence Laurus said.

As for the assistance provided by ecumenical organizations, it looks very selective, he said, adding that, surprisingly, the World Council of Churches did nothing to help the oppressed Christians in the former Yugolasvia, and primarily the Kosovo Serbs who espouse Orthodoxy.

His Eminence Laurus also sounded cautious as he spoke about re-emerging contacts between Moscow Patriarchate and the Vatican.

He believes, for instance, that a pontifical visit to Russia – something that Holy See was seeking to organize back in the period of Pope John Paul’s pontificate – might exert bad impact on relations between Moscow Patriarchate and ROCOR.

His Eminence Laurus explained, however, that he had no personal power of deciding on slowdown moves in terms of the pace of reunification, saying full power on such decision-making is vested in the Council of Bishops.

He indicated, though, the information at his disposal did not suggest the presence of any exact plans regarding a possible pontifical trip to Russia.

His Eminence Laurus confirmed that ROCOR hierarchs believe it would be logical to crown the reunification process with the convocation of an All-Russia Church Council.

“Our people, our bishops live with that hope in their hearts,” he said.

ROCOR has its own parishes on the canonical territory of the Russian Orthodox Church reporting to Moscow Patriarchate and it would like to keep them up after reunification is formalized, His Eminence Laurus said.

He made it clear, though, that ROCOR’s Synod is ready to settle any problems once they emerge in that context.

The bridging of a tragic divide that appeared in the once united Russian Orthodox Church during the decades of Bolshevist rule would have effects going beyond the boundaries of the Church as such, His Eminence Laurus said.

It would signal moral recuperation of society, he said.

His Eminence Laurus reaffirmed that, to the best of its ability – which is not all-embracing – ROCOR is ready to help improve attitudes towards Russia around the world.

Commissions of Moscow Patriarchate and Russian Church Outside Russia agree upon all points of Act of Restoration of Canonical Unity

Moscow, June 29, Interfax – The negotiation commissions of the Moscow Patriarchate and the Russian Church Outside Russia have agreed upon all the questions involved in the Act of the Restoration of Canonical Unity, which is to define the basic points of a new status of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia (ROCOR) as a self-governed part of the one Russian Church.

The secretary of the Moscow Patriarchate commission, Archpriest Nikolay Balashov, has reported this to Interfax as the outcome of a three-day meeting of the commissions, which completed their work on Wednesday in Moscow.

‘The commission considered steps to be taken next towards the restoration of church unity’ the priest said.

He also said the commissions studied the proposals of the ROCOR Bishops’ Synod concerning the finalizing of the draft Act on Canonical Unity, which was approved by the Synod on the whole.

‘Common decisions have been negotiated and adopted by the commissions to be then submitted to the Synods’, the agency’s interlocutor has reported.

The final approval of the Act by the Synods in Moscow and New York will signify the restoration of canonical unity and Eucharistic communion between the Church in Russia and the part of the Russian Diaspora which separated from it eight decades ago.

The session of the Russian Orthodox Church Holy Synod is expected to consider the revised draft in July, and the Synod of the Church Outside Russia will probably meet in September in New York.

Father Nikolay did not exclude the need for the commissions to meet again in order to discuss details before the final adoption of the Act, but at the same time said, ‘I have got an impression that the dialogue with the Church Outside Russia is approaching the happy end. The main part of the road has been already traversed’.

The frog has been cooked, ladies and gentlemen! I hope the ecumenists are happy. I'm sure the FSB is pinning medals on Abp. Mark for a job well done.

St. Joseph of Petrograd, pray unto God for us!

Alexy hopes the ROCOR reunites with the MP towards end

Patriarch Alexy hopes the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia reunites with the Moscow Patriarchate towards the end of the year

Moscow, July 24, Interfax - The unity of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia and the Moscow Patriarchate may be completely re-established by the end of 2006, Patriarch Alexy II of Moscow and All Russia thinks.

In the end of this year a joint liturgy may be celebrated by representatives of the two branches of the Russian Church in the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Moscow Kremlin, he said in his interview to Pervyi canal on Sunday.

According to church canons that will mean the final overcoming of the schism.

‘We say that communion in prayer is needed. I think, however, it has already been achieved,’ Alexy II remarked.

He recalled that the delegation of Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia headed by its first hierarch had visited Russia last year and attended the three services celebrated by the patriarch, praying at them.

Interesting... Now we will hear to those "ROCOR defenders" (Bishop, Clergy and laymen etc) to try to deny this. Meanwhile the time passes and the union is more and more near.

You won't find me denying it; I think its great and should have happened more than a decade ago.
Its the very tiny, but very vocal (and very tired) groups that keep running around like Chicken Little. Its old; give it a rest. The reunification of the Russian Church is coming and its a great thing.
The continuous negative press and comments against this do nothing but make the naysayers look foolish. Every single point that's been thrown has been discredited.
