M't:4:18: And Jesus, walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two brethren, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers.
M't:8:14: And when Jesus was come into Peter's house, he saw his wife's mother laid, and sick of a fever.
M't:10:2: Now the names of the twelve apostles are these; The first, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother; James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother;
M't:14:28: And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water.
M't:14:29: And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus.
M't:15:15: Then answered Peter and said unto him, Declare unto us this parable.
M't:16:16: And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.
M't:16:18: And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
M't:16:22: Then Peter took him, and began to rebuke him, saying, Be it far from thee, Lord: this shall not be unto thee.
M't:16:23: But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men.
M't:17:1: And after six days Jesus taketh Peter, James, and John his brother, and bringeth them up into an high mountain apart,
M't:17:4: Then answered Peter, and said unto Jesus, Lord, it is good for us to be here: if thou wilt, let us make here three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias.
M't:17:24: And when they were come to Capernaum, they that received tribute money came to Peter, and said, Doth not your master pay tribute?
M't:17:26: Peter saith unto him, Of strangers. Jesus saith unto him, Then are the children free.
M't:18:21: Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times?
M't:19:27: Then answered Peter and said unto him, Behold, we have forsaken all, and followed thee; what shall we have therefore? M't:26:33: Peter answered and said unto him, Though all men shall be offended because of thee, yet will I never be offended.
M't:26:35: Peter said unto him, Though I should die with thee, yet will I not deny thee. Likewise also said all the disciples.
M't:26:37: And he took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to be sorrowful and very heavy.
M't:26:40: And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them asleep, and saith unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour?
M't:26:58: But Peter followed him afar off unto the high priest's palace, and went in, and sat with the servants, to see the end.
M't:26:69: Now Peter sat without in the palace: and a damsel came unto him, saying, Thou also wast with Jesus of Galilee.
M't:26:73: And after a while came unto him they that stood by, and said to Peter, Surely thou also art one of them; for thy speech bewrayeth thee.

M't:26:75: And Peter remembered the word of Jesus, which said unto him, Before the rooster crow, thou shalt deny me thrice. And he went out, and wept bitterly.

Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ: Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord, According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust....

How about we nominate St. Peter to be the patron Saint of all married hierarchs and Patriarchs and first among equals!

I'm curious too.

Plus, if he is a bishop, shouldn't he be a monastic? I don't even think the Commies forced monks to marry.

Excuse me but we have come acroos this before and the moderators will verify- That all with Honarable Titles, such as Bishops of the church will be addressed as such, not for the influx of ego you might bring yourselves.but in reverance to Our God and Saviour Jesus Christ as they have taken lifelong Vows to serve God,reguardless of past sins...

Only the monks can be bishops, but a widower or divorced man could take the monastic life and this way then became bishop, this is well according to the tradition of the Church.

As for the Patriarch Alexey II, he and his former wife Vera married April 11, 1950, during the Bright Week (this is forbidden for the Holy Canons), then April 15, 1950 he was ordered to deaconate, and April 17, 1950 was ordered to priesthood, however the Patriarch's official biographies don't mention abou his marriage. According to some versions he would have married to escape from the obligatory military service.

Another interesting thing is that he father-in-law (Protopriest Georgy Alexeyev) when his mother-in-law died become a monk and then was ordered bishop of Tallin, Estonia, as Bishop Ioann (Alexeyev), this bishop (his father-in-law) was one of those that consecrate the young bishop Alexey (Ridiger) in 1961. The marriage of the Father Alexey Ridiger and Vera Alexeyeva only lasted some months and then they got divorced, then Father Alexey became a monk.

Vera married again and she has three children of this second marriage, she lives in Estonia.

I agree with you on this point... but apparently it is also certain that Drozdov was the "Honorable" name that the Patriarch Alexey had in the KGB and which he was never repented.
