Antisemitism in Orthodoxy

Post by Jean-Serge »

I am realizing that many orthodox have antisemitist feelings, saying Jews are damned; where does this come from? It is very worrying...

Technically, many Antiochians are semetic.

According to St. Polycarp, Marcion (who hated the Jews and argued the NT and OT God were not the same God) was first born of Satan - which for me pretty much answers where the hatred comes from.

How anyone could call themselves Christians, read the Gospels, and hate Jews is beyond all reason. But who said sin is reasonable?

Actually Jews are not dammed in the sceans that no other non-Orthodox is damed, jews and other non-Orthodox don't have salvation, BTW we should not use the term ANTI-Semetic, but ANTI-Jew scince other mideastern people are semetic, PS if the Father's are agaist the jews then we can only shut our mouths and except it, and not go against it, because it is the world that is telling us to not listen to our Father's Of the Church if they are speaking agaist jews, and DAMED IS anybody that DIES going against the Church.

Well, linguistically speaking, antisemitism is hatred of Jews (it is the definition given in any dictionnaries).

The Fathers clearly said that we had to hate heresy but bot the heretic... In any man, there is the "image" of God, including the worst sinners... So I do not see any theological justification to this hatred... I can hear things like : "Jews are damned since the wonb etc", or when a Jew is baptized, there is a special prayer etc...

I do not possess enough time (because I am a parent, and work fulltime) to ferret out patristic quotes, and quotes from any contemporary reputable Orthodox sources. So I hope that somebody here will be able (and willing) to instruct Iconophili that God is not limited in whom He can save. It long has been understood that God may grant (even has granted, probably) salvation to individuals who, to our limited-vision human eyes, do/did not fall within the technical definition of an Orthodox Christian.

Well, since Iconophili doesn't provide citations for anything he says about the "Fathers" one wonders if he has actually read any and has something particular in mind for following in blind and silent obedience.

Or is he using some vague ideas about them to bolster his "conspiracy" ideas. Since he's not said, that I recall, just what jurisdiction he belongs to (if any), one doesn't even know if he/she is actually EO either.

This could be another attempt on his/hers part to get people riled up for personal enjoyment.

I was once told, "Let us not concern ourselves with other people`s salvation, only those that seek and come to us..God is all mighty and powerful he is the Word, including the First and Last word of who gets saved" he then said those who know Christ and have been Baptised into the Triune God are slaves in the world to God and nothing else, therefore we MUST not concern ourselves with who else is getting save..
we should how ever concern ourselves with giving a little more alms, visiting the sick, senior citizens centers , and smiling and talking to the homeless, our neighbors and even those NON-Orthodox Christians for they might have a place in Heaven before i do a wretched sinner

It is my understanding from a converted Jew that Jews entering the Ark do not renounce their old faith as they are completing their faith in God (at least in the Antiochian Church).
