Abp Gregory's Cult - A WARNING!

Post by Nathaniel Kapner »

I write this affimation that Dormition Skete Monastery in Buena Vista CO, under the ownership of Abp Gregory and his 'church,' advertised as www.roacamerica.org / soon to be www.goca.org, IS A CULT.

I write this affirmation as A WARNING for all who might entertain joining Dormition Skete Monastery or Abp Gregory's 'church,' that they would be joining A CULT.

Taking full responsibility for the affirmation above and the following statements, I now list my reasons for this my testimony of cultic-activities with respect to Abp Gregory and his operations:

1) I, Sub Deacon Nathaniel Kapner, (Milton L Kapner), was a member of Dormition Skete Monastery from February 1, 2004 until June 25, 2005, when priest-monk Peter Wheeler put me in Jail, and Abp Gregory fully supported him.

2) Abp. Gregory instills "fear" into his monks, nuns, and parishioners, by stating that he, by virtue of his office as a "right-confessing" bishop, is the only true 'church' left on earth. Thus, if a monk, nun, or parishioner should entertain leaving him, he or she fears that he or she is doomed to Hell.

3) Abp. Gregory instills "assurance" and "complacence" into his monks, nuns, and parishioners, by stating that as long as they are "in obedience" to him, they will go straight to heaven, bypassing "The Dread Judgment Seat of Christ." ( II Corinthians 5:10) Thus they are encouraged to do his bidding, even if it is immoral. (Details to come)

  1. Since 1979, when Abp Gregory fled from Holy Transfiguration Monastery in Boston, he has been accountable to no Church Administration, no spiritual guides, and no counselors. He has since 1979, been 'his own man." Thus, he acts and gives orders without considering their moral dimensions and the reproofs of outsiders.

I write this affirmation as A WARNING for all who might entertain joining Dormition Skete Monastery or Abp Gregory's 'church,' that they would be joining A CULT.

I attest that all of the above statements are factual and true.

Yours for Christ and His Holy Orthodox Church,

Sub Deacon Nathaniel Kapner
(Milton L Kapner)

An Introduction; a convert, RE: Abp Gregory

Post by Pravoslavny Seraphim »

Greetings in Christ!

I am a convert to the Faith who has been studying Holy Orthodoxy for more than four years now, and am attending an Antiochian parish (yes, it is New Calendar). The question that bothers me now is the question of where the Orthodox Church can be found, untainted and unchanged. Trouble is, it is impractical at the present time to go to an Old Calendar Church, or to move nearer to one. Admittedly, I have been greatly influenced by Russian spirituality, and have sought to find a place in the Russian Church Abroad, but political issues keep me from doing so.

I have recently been in contact with Abp. Gregory of Dormition Skete, and have read his polemics website, which in many cases is very sound. I was planning on arranging a visit to the Skete, to see if the monastic life is for me. I have not yet been officially enrolled as a catechumen at my parish, though I may within a few weeks, and so have not been received into the Church by baptism and Chrismation. If I were to go to Buena Vista, Abp Greogory seems willing to accept me, formally receive me into the Church, and take me on as a novice. Needless to say, I was very excited to hear this news. But I am becoming concerned with all of the political issues and the seeming fraction of both ROAC and ROCOR, and have trouble deciphering where the Church is truly to be found, and where I might grow spiritually in exploring the monastic life. I have also come across some negative things here in this forum regarding Abp Gregory and Dormition Skete. Surely there are two sides to every story, and both can be convincing enough. So how can one sort out his concerns and make a decision?

Please keep in mind that I am pre-catechumenate, and that I am currently attending a parish within a New Calendar jurisdiction. All Orthodox parishes within a 30-50 mile radius are modernist (I live about 60 miles above San Diego, CA). So I already have to drive a ways, as my parish is 30 miles from me, and further distances are currently impractical for me financially.

Dear Seraphim,

Unfortunately in my postition have to travel across the sea to another country in order to get to my GOC/CII parish. For along time it was practical concerns which kept me trying to "make the best" of the Soviet Church, kept me trying to assure myself that they were a sick part but still a part of the Church. Having made the leap I can tell you that the difference between the True and false Orthodox churches is the difference between Heaven and hell, not just between Heaven and earth.

That said Bishop Gregory of Colorado is a renovationist when it comes to the Dogma of Redemption , aswell, and the two things are connected, he has a false idea about obediance. Much if not most of the True Orthodox world considers him in prelest.

If you are mainly focused on the Russian tradition I personally would recommend ROAC, especially as they have now dealt with name-whorshipping heretic Father Lurie.

May God guide and protect you,

Theophan.

First of all, you haven't been baptized so don't think about being a monk yet too much. Focus on baptism and conquering the passions right now. One step at a time.

Secondly, please visit several Orthodox monasteries before making any committment. I would recommend visiting Metropolitan Pavlos's monastery in New York. I can provide more information via private message if you so desire.

My conscience dictates that I state openly and clearly that Gregory of Colorado is the worst possible place you might find yourself. He likes to play himself off as "the last bastion of truth", but he only uses this to get what he wants and for each of the few newbie people he has left, there are 10 people he has spiritually brutalized over the years.
