Remembering St. Philaret

Post by joasia »

Today is the 20th anniversary of the repose of St. Philaret. I would like to post the prayer he said. It is a wonderful example of humility in a man who held such an important position and yet sought only the Will of God. Unfortunately, there are too many men of no position who deem themselves as great men....may this prayer release them from such prelest.

Prayer of St. Philaret - Metropolitan of Moscow

My Lord, I know not what I ought to ask of Thee. Thou and Thou alone knowest my needs. Thou lovest me more than I am able to love Thee.
O Father, grant unto me, They servant, all which I cannot ask. For a cross I dare not ask, nor for consolation; I dare only to stand in Thy presence. My heart is open to Thee. Thou seest my needs of which I myself am unaware. Behold and lift me up! In Thy presence I stand,
awed and silenced by Thy will and Thy judgments, into which my mind cannot penetrate. To Thee I offer myself as a sacrifice. No other desire is mine but to fulfill Thy will. Teach me how to pray. Do Thyself pray within me.

Amen.

In Christ,

Joanna

Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. (Ps. 50)

Dear Joanna,

That's a very nice prayer from St. Philaret of Moscow. However, today is the 20th anniversary of the repose of Metropolitan Philaret the former first hierarch of ROCOR. They are two different people.

Nathaniel Kapner

"Blessed Met Philaret loves me to pieces."

The most blessed of the blessed Met Philaret the great
Hierarch of the +ROCOR loves me to pieces, he does,
he most certainly does.

Why does the most blessed of the blessed Met Philaret
the great Hierarch of the +ROCOR love me pieces
he does he does?

Because I am fighting his battle I am I am, because I am
fighting the battle he began against ecumenists, the
"psuedo church" mp, and the traitor bishops that he said,
"they have put a gun to my head."

Sbn Nathanael Kapner
aka Milton L Kapner
"I.m going to stop the vote."

Oops. I guess I didn't pay close enough attention. I am referring to the repose of Met. Philaret of ROCOR. Now, I see that the prayer is from Met Philaret of Moscow.

Well, they were both Metropolitans and are saints. I wonder if Met Philaret(ROCOR) said the prayer too.

Anyways, I thought someone should mention the anniversary.

In Christ,

Joanna

News and Announcements

Wondrous is God in His saints!

Metropolitan Philaret’s Relics are Incorrupt

October 30/Nov 12, 1998 Zenobios and Zenobia the martyrs

Brother Isaac from the Synod has just informed me that Archbishop Laurus of Holy Trinity Monastery has faxed the following information to the Synod in NYC: In the company of a few monastics, His Grace opened the coffin of Blessed Metropolitan Philaret (who reposed fourteen years ago) and found his body untouched by decomposition. Great is the Lord our God in His Saints! From Email sent from Fr George Larin

I am the parish priest at the Protection of the Mother of God Russian Orthodox Church in Rochester, NY USA. Each Tuesday I go and teach Pastoral Theology at Holy Trinity Seminary in Jordanville, NY. The inspection of the Relics of Metropolitan Philaret occurred this past Tuesday. By God's great mercy to terrible sinners, I was vouchsafed to be present at the opening. Also by God's great mercy to terrible sinners, I was present at the canonization inspection of the Relics of St. John of San Francisco (this was not the original opening of the relics, but the inspection a few days before the glorification). The condition of the Relics of Metropolitan Philaret are very much the same as St. John. Glory be to God!

I can confirm the E-mail sent by Fr. George Larin: In the company of Archimandrite Luke, Archimandrite Peter, Hieromonk Roman, Novice Peter (Jigalin) and this unworthy priest, His Grace Archbishop Laurus served a Panichida and then opened the coffin of Blessed Metropolitan Philaret (who reposed on the day of the Synaxis of the Archangel Michael and the other Bodiless Powers in 1985) and found his body untouched by decomposition.

The reason for the opening was the following:
The resting place of Metropolitan Philaret in the Chapel at the monastery cemetery was only temporary. His final resting place is to be the newly added sepulcher in the main Holy Trinity church of the monastery. The translation is to take place on the Feast of the Synaxis of the Archangel Michael and the other Bodiless Powers next Saturday. The opening and inspection was in preparation for this translation. Truly Holy is our God, Who restest in the SAINTS!

Nathaniel,

Your post is in bad taste. I didn't start this post to be a podium for your self-glorification.

This is to glorify God's saint...not you.

In Christ,

Joanna

Joasia:
You are right it is good to remember this man on his day of passing. I knew Metropolitan Philaret, he often came to our parish for services. I remember him as a soft spoken person. You really had to listen when he spoke. He was always kind to all and especially to the altar boys.

I remember his absolute faith in God and how he often placed his hopes in God's help during trials and tribulations.

Bro Nathaniel:

I think I can say with a lot of surity.....Met. Philaret would not have chosen you, but I think he would have kept you in his prayers.
