I really ought to know better than to ask, BUT can anyone tell me what are the actual practical repercussions of the MP withdrawing from the WCC? What advantage is gained by the ROC continuing to participate in that organization? I've heard that the ecumenism of the 1970's has died down, since there is no Soviet state demanding this "window dressing." What happens when clergy of other denominations criticizes Orthodox ecclesiology? For example: look, if Russia started rounding up Muslims and killing them, well, I would expect the WCC comment on it! BUT, Protestant clergy have been critical of the ROC for not being "open" to women's ordination. Why does this take place? Why has Orthodoxy been subject to this kind of judgement? Are conservative denominations in the WCC (if there are any) critical of the Episcopal Church's ordination of open, praticing homosexuals? Is it true that the ROC remains in the WCC merely for "administrative advantages" whatever that means. In a way, I can sort of sympathise with the RC Church's decision not to participate in the WCC. Of couse, that said, I really know nothing about the history of the organzation, and my primary interest is how it effects Orthodoxy.
