Ranting and Raving

Christ is in our midst!

Again, please keep up with the topic. We went into the Cappadocians, St. Maximos, St. Cyril, St. Photios, St. Mark Evgenikos, St. Tikhon et al. Resistance is a patristic standard. Review the posts. And, oh, yes, PUT ORTHODOXY FIRST!

Kollyvas:

You protest too much. Your posts begin to sound like you are pouting and stomping your feet in frustration.

You need to back off a bit....

This will be my last post for a while. I am not "chickening out", tomorrow I will be flying to Sofia, Bulgaria to begin a two week trip through Bulgaria, Serbia, Hungary, and Ukraine. If I find myself with time, I will continue in this discussion. Some substantial issues have been raised and I want to look into the life and teachings of Saint Maximus the Confessor and Saint Mark of Ephesus, so I can give a proper reply to Kollyvas' remarks, but I will not have the time nor the resources while traveling. So, please pray for me and for safe travels and hopefully, I can participate in this discussion soon!

The Church Is The Body Of Christ

Post by Kollyvas »

Christ is in our midst!
As far as I can understand in a limited way, the Church is the Body of Christ, and there is only ONE Church, the Holy Orthodox Catholic Apostolic Church. Now, to borrow idiom from St. Paul, if we be of ONE Body, born of ONE Body and delivered from sin, and if that Body be Christ's, then we are of Christ, and the Body being His is justly Him. The Orthodox Church is Christ, typefied in the Eucharist. And it is to her we can only be FIRSTLY loyal.

I don't normally engage in theological discussion here (because the presumption is that, as a DP, my theological reasoning is worth squat), but since what is presented is a private opinion and is screamingly wrong, Im going to make an exception.

Take this further: if you are a member of the one body which is (according to you) Christ, then you too are Christ, and you may worship yourself.

When Paul talks of the church as a body, he does so always in the context of Christ as the head. He does NOT say that the body is that of Christ. Indeed, the main point of the metaphor is that the other parts of the body merely do what the head tells them. What you teach here runs utterly contrary to what Paul says.

Read Ephesians, Corinthians, etc. AND THE FATHERS

Post by Kollyvas »

Christ is in our midst!

It's not that we are Christ, for we become like Christ for He has united our nature to the Father, and we continually progress in perfection becoming like unto the Prototype...that's why we venerate Icons, for we venerate the Image and Likeness restored. Christ is a personal God. We don't as the protestants teach believe that salvation comes in an instant, nor do we believed in a created intermediary who grants grace to us and then disappeas but never allows us contact with Christ as the latin heretics teach. We are called to perfection by walking in the way of holiness and approaching the nature made perfect in Christ Jesus and this is a never-ending process. This then is how we constitute the ONE Body, for we are partakers of that Divine Nature and it eternally unites us with the Father and leads us into leads us into perfection. And this is in full accord with what SAINT Paul teaches when he castigates the Corinthians for being reprobate in sin, and he asks of them, WHAT PART HATH CHRIST WITH A HARLOT. Evidently, you're not Orthodox. Read the Fathers and CONTEXTUALIZE SAINT Paul.
