Greek men seek bilateral deal with Bulgaria to find wives

Greek men seek bilateral deal with Bulgaria to find wives

Greek men are demanding a bilateral agreement with neighbouring Bulgaria because they are short of women.

Greek private TV station Mega interviewed men from across the country to discuss official statistics that show there are only 66 unmarried Greek women per 100 single men.

Almost all the men interviewed said that they were in favour of "importing" brides from the country's northern neighbour.

They thought a bilateral agreement should be reached between the two states, Bulgaria's Novinite.com reported.

I guess I was right after all about how hard it is to find an Orthodox woman.

Greeks not Orthodox?

Post by Natasha »

I would like to see you present that post to some Greeks to get their opinion. Seems to me like it could be quite inflammatory.
Personally, this attitude tires me. Many converts seem to think that the "cradle" Orthodox/persons from historically Orthodox countries, could never be devout or express the same amount of passion for the Faith.

Unfortunately, few Greeks are Orthodox (in anything more than a cultural way, sort of like how most Jews are members of Judaism because it's part of their culture). So, the chances of a guy finding a good Greek girl in Greece are bad; but the chances of finding a good Greek girl who is an Orthodox girl is nearly impossible.

Paradosis, have you ever been to Greece? How would you know all of this about Greece? Have you spoken to Greeks about this? There are still many devout Greeks in Greece. You may have misunderstood my comment earlier. In fact, I should have said how sad it is that Greek men cannot find an Orthodox woman in Greece because the numbers are just not there with 66 single women per 100 single men. It may not seem like it if you sit in front of a computer screen all day, but they are there. Paradosis, you have been Orthodox for what, about 2 years now, and you seem to have this idea as to who is 'orthodox' and who is not. There are many devout Orthodox in many of the cradle countries. In fact, many converts lack an example of orthopraxis in their life from their families, and this causes all sorts of trouble. Frankly I am tired of this super correct-like attitude of yours. You need to find yourself a spiritual father to guide you my friend because you are on your way to a HOCNA-like church in the next five years. I am sorry if this makes you mad but I am concerned for you my friend.

I have asked people from Greece about the faith there. Knowing how strongly Greeks value their faith & culture, I immediately saw a problem in your post.

There is nothing un-Orthodox about getting married. Is marriage supposed to be some kind of indulgence? I read in the Bible that "it is not good for man to be alone." So, what could the 34 remaining bachelors do? ... Any suggestions?

I am reminded of the story of Romulus and the Sabine women. Of course a conflict emerged, but in the end did anyone really mind?
I think it was a great post.
