Very Important Poll Question for All Posters!

The resting place of threads that were very valid in 2004, but not so much in 2024. Basically this is a giant historical archive.

Absolutely. But not nick-names (i.e. Tom should be Thomas) please!

No way! I do not want people knowing my Baptismal/Legal name, or what religion I am!

So may we then assume that "1937 Miraculous Cross" is your baptismal name?

More like "Snopes" :)

My Name? "Code XP"

Post by Nathaniel Kapner »

Between all of the "famulos"es; & "Orthodox6" es; & "TomS" es, of this Forum, my brain is registering a "please try again" digital code.

I come from the Old School, D.O.B. 9/5/50. I gravitiate towards regular kinds of ol' Joes with actual heights and weights - however irrelevant that may seem to our anonymous phantom posters...

What's more, I would rather [myself] use the name, Woody Koningsberg instead of Milton Kapner, it sounds more Jewish.

Better yet, when I was 14, I pined for the name, Fabian Forte,' it sounded less Jewish.

But if I really wished to join the ranks of Club-Orthodox Anonymous, I would most likely choose something like "Code XP."

When I first became a novice at HTM, I longed for the name, Fr. Cuthbert, it sounded more far removed from who I really was.

And that is why our 21st century monasticism is so very beautiful, and so very true to the days of St Catherines of Ladder days' fame.

We American kids now-shema-ized, we who grew up on Mick Jagger and The Twilight Zone, can now have it our way, so by only a name, can be forever something-other, instantly glorified, and in a word, 'erased.'

I am Milton Kapner. That is the name my mother gave to me in remembrance of her brother who died in World War II. It as well contains my past history, and all Public Records with regard to me. A search for a fee will reveal all. Or call gregory for free.

I am just as much Brother Nathaniel, my Orthodox name, and my monastic name. of which vocation, I still pursue.

Which leads the inspired- me, dear famuloses & Orthodox6es, & TomSes, and to all the sanctified hidden-named, and triple-indentured, and to all the androgynous hermaphroditics of our unconformed states of minds, to break into this holy introit dedicated to all of you:

"Soldier boy
Oh, my little soldier boy
I'll be true to you.

You were my first love * And you'll be my last love *
I will never make you blue * I'll be true to you .

Soldier boy
Oh, my little soldier boy
I'll be true to you.

In the whole world * You can love but one girl *
Let me be that one girl * For I'll be true to you."

I remain all things to all that...

Something else that occurred to me: This is a forum that may be read by all and sundry who come by and whoever is lurking here is not known. Who would be reading the names and jurisdictions, personal information may not be, let's say, benign or totally sane.

If this were to become a totally closed members-only-can-read postings forum, such as happened to the RC one I mentioned before, that situation would not occur. I wonder how big the forum would be then, if it were become that way.

One wonders again (if it was answered I must have missed it) just why other persons' desire to know information about other forum members. Why does their interest/curiosity mean more then another persons privacy?

If we just give first names, not jurisdiction or location, I dont' think it would be possible for any crazy people to track us down.

Little late, I suppose, since I haven't checked this forum in over 2 weeks... too busy... but now that I've been on hold with the DMV for the last 25 minutes, I have to say that I don't like this idea at all. A lot of people on this forum know who I am anyway, and I can do little about that, but I'd rather not broadcast it anymore. There are few anias in my area and my jurisdiction. If people want to know who other members are, they should PM each other.
As far as using baptismal names for EVERYTHING... I've had so many nicknames in my life, I can't remember all of them, and even clergy family & friends have nicknames for me. I've seen a lot of priests who in private settings are called by diminutives and nicknames by their family & friends.

I had hoped the Euphronsynos Cafe had got a grip on the deeply worrying stream of posts by a single individual. Indeed I have, along with others, protested.

And on this thread I now find that a contributor, a minor cleric and aspiring monastic referrs to others as androgynous and hermaphrodites.

One may have opinions, one might consider the same evidence and come to a different conclusion, one might have different concerns or fears but to 'call' others in this way is, I believe, completely unacceptable and reflects more on the person writing in such a vein than anyone else.

I am greatly saddened and appalled. The person concerned should apologise and give an undertaking not to repeatedly grate upon and offend others and/or the moderators should act decisively for the good of all and of that individual.

I have made complaint to the moderators, Father Siluan and Anastasios, about Brother Nathaniel's latest post and can only hope they do act. Meantime until some action is taken I am withdrawing from the Euphrosynos Cafe in protest at a situation that must and should have been addressed a long time ago for the good of the Euphrosynos Cafe and all who use it, not least Brother Nathaniel.
