PATR. ALEXEII ON VIET NAM

Post by John Haluska »

Patriarch Alexei II Greets the President of Viet Nam with the 30th Anniversary ofthe Victory of Communism during the Civil War.

On May 12th, Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia, Alexei II, greeted the president of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam, Chan Dik Loong with the 30th anniversary of communist victory in the Civil War which posed the democratic South against the communist North.

"I heartily congratulate you, and through you, all the brotherhood of Vietnamese citizens with this glorious jubilee" wrote the patriarch in his letter.

The patriarch noted that the Russian Orthodox Church, during difficult years devotedly spoke out for the establishment of peace in Viet Nam.

The Moscow Patriarchate, fulfilling the directives of the soviet leadership, carried out their contribution "toward the hastening of that day through a framework of peacemaking efforts by the international religious organizations."

"We rejoice that 30 years ago a great victory in this war, the heroic Viet Nam brought to an end the tragic divisions between the North and the South, revealing to a united Vietnamese peoples new horizons of national progress under conditions of independence." underlined the leader of the Russian Orthodox Church.

Patriarch Alexei wished President Dik Loong "the generous help of God in blessed labors for the good of the Vietnamese government", and for the peoples of Viet Nam "good fortune and growth".

"..."If you are able, save for them a place inside of you and save one backward glance when you are leaving for the places they can no longer go.

Be not ashamed to say you loved them, though you may or may not have always. Take what they have taught you with their dying and keep it with your own.

And in that time when men decide and feel safe to call the war insane, take one moment to embrace those gentle heroes you left behind."

Ughhh! I am going to be sick! My father was in combat in Vietnam in 1968. If you can call the vicious killers and maniacs who comprised the NVA as glorious victors for the Vietnamese people you are insane. My father saw NVA men put women and children on barbed wire so they could walk on them and advance on US troops more efficiently. The NVA would kill little kids if they suspected them of giving quarter to US troops. To say that the Vietnamese people gained a victory is ludicrous! And what type of economy does this Red Atheist outpost have? It certainly is not Socialist.

Anyway I really hope that the bishops in ROCOR read this and break off dialogue. Clearly the MP has not repented its sins and is willing to make a deal with the devil for the sake of 'friendship'.

CHRIST IS RISEN!

Hi John,

Could you, please, give me the site of this article? I want to send it to someone, but I'm sure I will be asked for the source.

Thank you so much.

Joanna

Sabbas,

I also agree that the MP are not showing signs of repentance. I read an article of Metropolitan Philaret of eternal memory, who commented on how the hierarchy should conduct themselves with the MP....he said, there should only be monologue, NOT dialogue.

That says it all. Such a simple comment and yet, the message is driven so deep into our conscience. I believe that the Holy Spirit works through the Holy Mysteries of ROCOR. But, the hierarchy are stumbling. This is why our laity have to pray and stay strong. When the time comes, we(I'm referring to the ROCOR laity) will have to reject the union. But, in the meantime, we have to keep voicing our disagreement with what's happening before our eyes concerning the MP conduct.

The people that agree or are indifferent to the union are minumum. It's a matter of collecting the voices of the faithful. They will be heard, when the time comes.

Joanna

Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. (Ps. 50)

Please tell your Father, from me:

WELCOME HOME!

Joasia:

The original “letter” was on “Portal-Credo” and in Russian. It was translated for me, and I eventually found it, in English, on another forum.

Evidently, “Portal-Credo” is “unavailable” at this time.

RUSSIAN, VIETCONG VIETNAM WAR VETERANS MEET IN MOSCOW

MosNews Russian and Vietnamese war veterans last week joined an annual get-together in Moscow held in remembrance of former Soviet Union military experts’ assistance to Vietnam’s anti-U.S. war, the Vietnam News Agency reported Monday.

The annual event on August 8 has been held for the last 36 years since 1970. The U.S. launched its bombing campaigns over northern Vietnam on August 8, 1964.

The former Soviet Union military experts worked with Vietnamese comrades in Vietnam to help fight the U.S., said Nicolai Kolesnich, President of the inter-regional social association of Russian Vietnam war veterans.

The year’s meeting took place prior to the 60th anniversary of the August revolution and the Independence Day of Vietnam, he said.

Vietnamese Minister Counsellor Nguyen Xuan Luu expressed his thanks to the people from the former Soviet Union in the past and Russia now for their enormous assistance to Vietnam’s anti-US war and its national construction.

He hoped that Russian veterans would continue their efforts to further strengthening the traditional friendship and strategic partnership between Vietnam and Russia.
