Signing one`s self with the sign of the Cross

Post by spyridon »

o.k. this is a far out question but,I just found some interesting writings of the Old Believers and the way they sign themselves-they use the thumb and last 2 fingers together ,then the pointing finger and the index finger are together symbolizing heaven and earth with the index finger slightly bent, like a break. they are really set on this way of signing oneself going as far as saying that any other way is asking for trouble and inviting the evil one to come and cause problems.
How do you cross yourselves?...I dont know what is happening but I actually kinda really understand how signing oneself is very important and how tradition should not be broken and how it could be inviting trouble, just because the spirit is broken does not mean you can sign yourself anyway you like...
it sets the terrible ball in motion and those youngers ones around you pick up these things and start to think that it really doesnt matter how you sign yourself, because you just halfway did it yourself....I feel like an old lady and im a 34 year old guy,but where does it stop? I know where in the Depths of hell, thats where!
