As I write this, my wife is beginning to go into labor. She started having contractions earlier tonight, but because she is only at 35 weeks and 5 days they gave her a drug to stop the contractions. Well, we came home from the hospital and the contractions started again, so now we have to skip the local hospital and go to the place about an hour away that specializes in high-risk pregnancies. For those who don't know, my wife has various heart problems, and also has gestational diabetes. I've been worried about her coming through the delivery allright. I asked the doctor about this last Wed. and she said that my wife had a "low" chance of dying, low meaning "five to ten percent" (though of course percentages are always just ballpark figures in such cases). Any prayers that you could say for my wife Mary and unborn daughter Athanasia would be greatly appreciated.
Prayer Request
Mary gave birth this past Saturday, to a healthy girl, named Athanasia Kharatina. She came home from the hospital on Tuesday, though we are still trying to work out all the medical issues with her blood thinner and other stuff. While in labor they discovered that she had pre-eclampsia, and at one point they thought they were going to have to do an emergency c-section and took her to the OR, but in the end it was just a pretty standard birth that came out well. Athanasia was 18 inches, and 4 pounds and 10 ounces at birth; and after the usual drop in weight after birth, was back up to within 2 ounces of her birthweight as of Wednesday afternoon. Despite her small size, all her muscular development, organs, bones, reflexes, etc. were just as they were suppose to be. She did have a low blood sugar due to my wife's gestational diabetes, but that went back to normal after 3 feedings. She also had to be put in a warmed bed for a day or so until she was able to stay warm enough on her own, but has been fine since then.
