Many times I have heard this verse quoted and the emphasis has been on the last part of the verse. The first part is ... well ... skiped over or ignored or not heard. It is important to obey Christ, this is not leagalism, but our demenstration of our love for Him. And His promise, well let us think for a moment. When we love someone we do not want to part from them even for a moment. This promise is if we love Jesus we will obey Him, our demenstration of our love for Him, (we do not want Him disapointed in us). Jesus then sais He will not be separated from us, He will live in us. Grant this oh Lord.
