Angel: You will be crucified to the world when the prince of the world will come and not find anyting of his in you. And the world will be crucifed to you when you will not accept any of its sinful desires. Love of the Lord's cross bears life; but love for the world, death. And so, it is necessary to mutually mortify yourself to the world and the world to you. (Saint Ambrose, On Chapter 6, Galatians).
We just went through the starving to death of Terry. There are many reasons one can come up with that would justify what was done. One of the things that I had heard was that they would not want to live like that. Why? because they couldnot enjoy the world, could not enjoy life as they would put it. We however are to look not at what is here so much as what is to come. We need to prepare ourselves for our life after this world. Keeping our focus on that, will help us crucify the world to us and us to the world. That is why the Apostle Paul said. If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable.(1 Corinthians 15:19)
For those that will spend eternity in torment, this life is all the pleasure they will have. For those that will spend eternity with Christ, this life is all the pain we will have. Praise God, and may I reach the end of my life clinging to Christ Jesus the author and finisher of my faith.
