Stavrophila: There is notheing better than to hear in your heart, confess with your lips, and express in every way only gratitude toward God; there is nothing more pleasant to hear, more joyful to reflect on, more useful in all kinds of matters. (Blessed Augustine, On Psams). ...
Now we come to were we are to give thanks for all things. This, I could say is the basis of our joy in the cross, but I believe the root of our joy in the cross is our love for God. Our love for God springs forth thanksgiving in the cross. But as we have seen so far, this is an easy thing to say, but not so easy to put into practice. We fight the world, our old man, and the evil one. It is only by God's grace and provision that we get any where in our growth in Christ. Lord have mercy on me!
