Now we are getting to the part about the differenct crosses we bear and even the fact that we can bear/carry more than one. I think that this is good for us to know and will help us to patiently bear our cross.

Stavrophila asks "..what do the words mean, Take your cross? Is it that each of us should carry a wooden cross or be crucified on the wood...?"

"Angel: You speak as senseless women do..."

Well, excuuuuussssseee ME!

Actually not a bad chapter.

My fiancee is fascinated by that "quaint" Filipino custom of actual crucifixions on Good Friday. Personally, I'm apalled by it. I think this is a great chapter (and section) for her to read.

The best thing I got from this chapter that I MOST need to work on is, "turn threats, flattery, and obstructions into a cross for yourself. Bear, endure, and do not succumb". (Blessed Augustine)

"This cross signifies the suferigs of the various martyrs of Christ. Look how much toture they had to endure in the hope of receiving compensation."

Last weekend I was at the consecration of St. George Serbian Orthodox Church in Largo, Florida (www.pravoslavac.com) and Metropoiltan Amfilohije from Montenegro distributed little icon cards of the Serbian New Martyrs. The icon depicted a man with his extremities being chopped off and eyes gouged out among other things. It seems so horrible but things like that were happening just a few years ago. In the prisoner camp my husband was in the Muslims decapitated a man and jokingly played soccer with his head. For Kurban Bajram (Eid after the hajj) when they ritually slaughter either lambs or sheep, they forced some Orthodox Serbs to recite Shahada (declaration of Islam) or say "Allahu akbhar". When they, bearing their cross for Christ, refused- they were sacrificed, mockingly for Kurban Bajram.

NEW SERBIAN MARTYRS FOR CHRIST, PRAY FOR US!

In Christ,
