Disturbing Article regarding St. Photius

I was surprised to read the following article about the life of St. Photius written by the Catholic Encyclopedia. I

You have to realize that until Fr Francis Dvornik wrote his revolutionary work The Photian Schism: History and Legend that the thoughts expressed in that article were believed by pretty much everyone outside the Orthodox world and even by some Orthodox!

That article dates from 1913; Dvornik's book was published in 1948. After the publication of that book, the Roman Catholic Church pretty much dropped most of its polemic against St. Photios and he even was restored the calendars of several Eastern-Rite Catholic Churches.

The New Advent site has useful information on it but at the same time it shows its dated scholarship on these types of matters.
