Discussions of New Calendarists, Ecumenists or the so-called "World Orthodox" jurisdictions that have sought communion with or have succumbed to the heresies of Ecumenism, Iconoclasm, Modernism, Monophysitism, Nestorianism or Sergianism
Question 1 - I really don't know of any members of World Orthodoxy that profess Monophysism. The issue is ecumenism with Monophysites that says the Orthodox can be in communion with them without sharing the same faith. Thus ecumensm is all that needed to said without being redundant.
Question 2 - How can one be both a Monophysite and a Nestorian?
Question 3 - substitute the word Nestorian for Monophysite in the first question.
Question 3 - Iconoclasm? On what grounds is this claim being levelled?
Observation 1 - The concepts behind Sergianism (placing more emphasis on the external part of the church than the spiritual) have reared their heads many times throughout the history of Orthodoxy. In some sense the Greeks dealt with it and defeated it in Saint Gregory Palamas and the idea was very present in members of the Russian hierarchy during the time of Saint Paisius Velichkovsky.
Observation 2 - It is far too premature to even make a judgement on "sergianism" at this point anyway. Let us all pray for the bearing of fruit of the dialouge between the ROCOR and the MP in this matter. Perhaps the strong witness of the ROCOR can bring about the repentence of the MP.
Observation 3 - While the bad news seems to get the most attention I'd like to point out that today the vast majority of "World Orthdox" will be celebrating the Lord's Nativity in the flesh according to the Church calendar. The holy mountain is experiencing a rival and monasteries are growing with monastics that reject both modernism and ecumenism. The New Calendar State Church of Greece has produced many holy elders and gifted theologians such as Metropolitan Hierotheos Vlachos.
