Seeker,

Stop holding onto a false faith in the pope. There is more happening than you know.

Pope John Paul II, in a gesture of friendship with the Orthodox Church, on Saturday handed over the bones of two early Christian saints that were brought to Rome from ancient Constantinople centuries ago.

Wern't these relics actually stolen from Constantinople?

The Vatican said the return of the saints' relics was part of the pope's efforts to promote Christian unity and dismissed any suggestion that John Paul was "asking pardon" for their removal by Crusaders from the seat of the Orthodox Church.

Since he is not asking pardon, then this point is useless. What about the heretical issue?

While a choir sang in Greek and Latin, the two religious leaders blessed the relics, before the reliquaries were carried away on biers by Vatican ushers in dark suits acting as pallbearers.

Talk about obvious ecumenism.

In remarks read for him by an aide, the frail pontiff called it a "blessed occasion to purify our wounded memories" and to "strengthen our path of reconciliation."

He is such a liar. What he really wants is reconcilliation under his authority and the Patriarch has sold out a long time ago. What about the papal repentance?

Bartholomew, speaking next, said the handover repaired "an anomaly" and "ecclesiastical injustice" and that it was a sign that there are no "insurmountable problems in the Church of Christ."

I want to barf.

"For eight hundred years, these relics have been in exile," Bartholomew said at service. "This gesture differentiates (Catholic leaders) from the deed of their predecessors eight centuries ago."

No. Acknowledging their heresy differentiates them...but that ain't gonna happen folks, so don't hold your breath.

"Without negating the tragic events of the XIII century," Navarro-Valls said, the gesture was intended to promote unity between Catholics and Orthodox.

Under who's terms?

The Greek Orthodox Byzantine Empire ultimately collapsed when the Muslim Ottoman Turks conquered the city in 1453, but the Ecumenical Patriarchate remained in the city.

Good point to mention. Who did they ask for help during that attack? hmmmm. Was it perhaps, their Western brothers? Who them refused to send help because they wanted the East to be destroyed?

My, how the liars do persist. It's amazing.

The Vatican cannot be trusted. They want to hold onto to their power and they will not humble themselves. They have no true faith, starting with the pope.

Tom says,

IMO, purely historical. The "veneration of relics" is another area where the Church used faith to raise money. Martin Luther was right.

Tom, you've really been spiritually damaged with your protestant influences. I feel sorry for you. You don't know what you're missing. You sound like an empty man. You just don't get it...you are really truely blind to the truth.

Nobody should expect Tom to answer..he just likes to through the s--t into the ring and observe the reactions. There's alot of anger in his flippant remarks. He has alot of spiritual issues to work out. Right Tom?

joasia,

Break this issue down to it's core. The Catholic Church sinned against the Orthodox. The Pope as head of the Catholic Church asked forgiveness for this sin. As Christians (followers of Christ) it is our DUTY to forgive. Matthew 18: 21 – 35 "21 Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, “Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother when he sins against me? Up to seven times?” 22 Jesus answered, “I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times."

As a jesture of this asking forgiveness the Pope has returned what was stolen. At it's core this is a step in the right direction.

Seeker,

If the pope wanted true forgiveness and repentance then he would repent for the addition of the filioque and all the other innovations created after the Great Schism. He is just trying to bribe the faithful with return of relics. He IS NOT repenting for all the popes of his generations. Look between the lines.

I do not memorize the Bible, but there is a part where St. Paul states that anyone who preaches falsely against the truth should not be believed because it is not with the truth of Christ. The Great Schism is that example and anyone that supports it thereafter. The pope DID NOT renounce the heresy of their teachings. That is the fact to look at.

I am simply stating my opinion. If you do not agree with it, or do not like it, then don't respond to it.

My post was NOT in the form of a question.

All points a good troll would maintain. If you don't want reactions to heretical or otherwise inaccurate statements, don't post.

joasia,

You are reading more into the Pope's actions. The Pope is apologizing for the sack of Constantinople. He is not trying to heal the schism with this act. He is simply saying we were wrong here and we are sorry will you forgive us? One can not deny forgiveness when one ask for it.

It was, rather, in the form of an error.
