I am at this time, the 11th hour, announcing my candidacy for President, as an alternative to the Dem & Rep candidates, as neither are worthy of the office.
Anyone who would like to write in for me at the ballot box, I'd greatly appreicate it.
Deacon Nikolai wrote:In the final Rebublican-Democrat presidential debate, Kerry said he would have a litmus test that any judge he appoints must be pro-choice. He also voted against the partial birth abortion ban. He votes and would appoint pro-abortion judges, which in my book makes him pro-abortion as he would make sure it continues and still opposes the partial-birth abortion ban, so he possibly would try to have that law overthrown.
Dear Fr. Deacon Nikolia:
In none of the three debates did Sen. Kerry say what you have just stated. As to the partial-birth abortion law, it has already been overthrown (turned) by a republican court. You also fail to address Pres. Bush's pro-abortion position, in favor of abortion in cases of rape, incest, health of the mother.
Se. Kerry did state that his religious beliefs and practice, opposed to all abortion, or anyone's, should not dictated by or legislated by the state. If that were the case, in this country we would all be required to practice protestant evangelical fundamentalism which is not a Christian understanding but a political, social and economic movement. As my friend and physician, a good believing protestant evangelical fundamentalist says every time I see him, "I pray that you will be Saved and repent of your pagan idolatry and dirty Catholic practices". He's an excellent Internists but a lousy Christian, I thank him for his concern and pray for his enlightenment.
The elected officials of this nation are neither spokesmen for nor champions of our faith. Nor should we encourage them to be. "Put not your trust in princes, in the sons of men, in whom there is no salvation."
Do not confuse America with or call it a "Christian Nation." We live in the devil's world. During our Lord and Savior's forty days in the wilderness, Satan showed Him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time [past, present, future]. "And the devil said to Him, 'All this authority I will give You, and their glory; for this has been delivered to me, and I give it to whomever I wish.'" Lk. 4:5-6. As St. John the Apostle reminds us, "We know that we are of God, and the whole world lies under the sway of the wicked one." Our nation belongs to the devil. It is not Christian. No electoral vote will change that fact.
This is not opinion but the Traditional Orthodox understanding of our journey in this earthly phase of our creation.
Again misinformation and distortion has no place in a loving Orthodox heart.

On a side note, did anyone see the CNN program about Evangelicals? Those people freak me out (no other way to say it). Now that I live down south, I meet a lot of evangelical doctors as well...when they find out I am Russian, they always are proud to tell me about their missions in eastern europe...I bite my tongue.
As Fr. Luke said, "Se. Kerry did state that his religious beliefs and practice, opposed to all abortion, or anyone's, should not dictated by or legislated by the state. If that were the case, in this country we would all be required to practice protestant evangelical fundamentalism which is not a Christian understanding but a political, social and economic movement."
I think that we as Orthodox Christians tend to forget that factor...the born-again Christians may be Christians, but they are not completely on our side, so to speak.
Ok this was amazingly easy to find....
DEGENHART: Senator Kerry, suppose you are speaking with a voter who believed abortion is murder and the voter asked for reassurance that his or her tax dollars would not go to support abortion, what would you say to that person?
KERRY: I would say to that person exactly what I will say to you right now.
First of all, I cannot tell you how deeply I respect the belief about life and when it begins. I'm a Catholic, raised a Catholic. I was an altar boy. Religion has been a huge part of my life. It helped lead me through a war, leads me today.
But I can't take what is an article of faith for me and legislate it for someone who doesn't share that article of faith, whether they be agnostic, atheist, Jew, Protestant, whatever. I can't do that.
But I can counsel people. I can talk reasonably about life and about responsibility. I can talk to people, as my wife Teresa does, about making other choices, and about abstinence, and about all these other things that we ought to do as a responsible society.
But as a president, I have to represent all the people in the nation. And I have to make that judgment.
