You have compulsory voting???? What happens if you don't vote--do the police come and drag you to the polling booth? Do they watch to make sure you make your "X"?

Nothing so dramatic, just a fine for not attending a voting booth, or sending a postal vote.

Are you and Ephream objecting to their banner on their website because it's not in favor of Kerry? That's how both of you come across on this issue as you slam them.

I couldn't care less who wins the election- just as long as they don't try to use Christ and His Church to win it.

It doesn't especially surprise me that they would use these Christian symbols on their website as their whole culture is Slavic-Byzantine. The Catholic Knights of Columbus do the same thing and no one gets bent out of shape over it.

If their culture is so Slavic-Byzantine, why would they want to imitate Roman Catholics?

I think it is just insulting to our Faith (Orthodoxy) that we involve political issues in the Church.
What would you think about such news as this: some GOA greek churches don't commune those who don't vote for Bush.
Is that logical? Such fanatism could crucify the Church for political reasons which is Heresy! That site should be shut down, (I don't know how) but there much be some way of making a petition. You can't seriously involve faith into the Presidential Elections! Is Bush even Orthodox? How about NATO? If we use the Orthodox Point of View (Which follows no ethnical point of view.) it is litterly heresy to involved God's blessed name of His Church in our Earthly Political Elections. Now regarding Serbs, well that is another issue, which I for one am against. (How about look at the Destruction of Kosovo and Metohia where Nato claims to be protecting those holy sites with the help of other European countries. Sure they are, that is why Nato in control by the USA, bombed Serbia on Pascha a couple of years ago!) Anyways, God shouldn't be involved in the Political section of Non-Orthodox, as such Non-Orthodox (such as Bush) shouldn't be involved with the Orthodox.

I do not think we should tell God what to get involved in! I think individual Orthodox Christinas have every right to assemble and say that a certain candidate in more in line with Orthodox Christian teaching and implore others to vote for him.

While clergy cannot do this in the Church, it also is appropriate IMO for them to point out that we should not vote for a candidate that is going to appoint only judges that protect the evil of abortion in every level of the court.

Whether or not it is a sin I am not qualified to say, but one must wonder just how American it is to vote democrat. I mean by this how much can one vote Democrat and still claim to be loyal to the Contstitution and American Common Law.
