Orthodox Christians in Battle States launch Web Effort

PITTSBURGH – October 11, 2004

There has not been a Presidential election this important for our Nation and Orthodox Christians in America since World War II. Several Serbs, Greeks and Ukrainians in Western PA have banded together to develop
www.orthodoxchristiansforbush.com , a web site launching today to support the re-election of President George W. Bush with a focus on the battle grounds in Pennsylvania, Ohio and Michigan.

Our Focus

The gap between Republicans and Democrats has never been wider and Orthodox Christians for Bush (OCB) needs to help our brothers and sisters define those differences and the consequences associated with them for our brethren in the US and abroad.

OCB believes our flock can have a profound impact in the critical swing states of Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan and nationwide in this Presidential Election by supporting President Bush as they estimate in Pennsylvania alone -1 in every 14 adults is Orthodox Christian. OCB estimates there are over five million Orthodox Christians in the US with heavy concentrations in the rust belt states, vital to the President’s re-election effort.

“With what is at stake, we can help swing these states for the President. And that is what we intend to do”, state the OCB Founders. “Exerting that kind of political influence will help us figure into the post-election domestic and international issues that greatly affect us and our families abroad. And we as an Orthodox Block have not united toward a common political goal for centuries. This is a defining moment for us as a people.”

Why President Bush

As the Democratic Party turns farther left, it is important for our brothers and sisters to re-evaluate the domestic political landscape and align themselves with a party, its candidates and leader who’s beliefs are more in accord with our own - and become advocates for those candidates and leader – President George W. Bush.”

OCB is attracted to Bush because he supports a conservative Christian agenda in alignment with our core values and beliefs, puts people first and not big government and recognizes the threat posed by radical Islamic terrorism throughout the world by which our ancestors have been victimized for centuries

As the World’s true superpower, we also believe the War on Terror has profound implications on our brothers and sisters in our ancestral lands throughout Europe and Northern Africa. All across the globe, our Orthodox people and their way of life are being threatened by hate manifested in terrorism. President Bush has declared a global attack on those who threaten our very existence.

For centuries, Orthodox Christians have been persecuted and victimized by radical Islamists – an unsettling reality that continues today in Cyprus, Kosovo, Sudan, Chechnya and other places around the world.

Our Goals and You

Our goals are to inform, educate and motivate Orthodox Christians in the target geography to get involved in this critical Presidential election and to reach misinformed, frustrated, disconnected voters and empower them to become active in this race and the democratic process.

To learn more, visit www.orthodoxchristiansforbush.com . To contribute important content about the race and your Orthodox ethnic groups concerns and issues, email us at ocb@orthodoxchristiansforbush.com and to present your opinions visit our chat room on the site.

Ways you can help right now . . .

  1. Press the action
Reach your local State Senator or Representative in the US Congress and be a voice for Christian values and your brothers and sisters abroad. http://www.visi.com/juan/congress/

  2. Speak out
You can help mold our agendas and provide information important to our domestic and global efforts. Let us hear your thoughts in our chat room.

  3. Communicate with other Orthodox Christians, organizations and Friends
If you like the issues addressed on the site inform your friends and encourage them to do the same. All across the globe, our Orthodox people and their way of life are being threatened by hate manifested in terrorism.

Urge your Church to publicize the Orthodox Christians for Bush web site address. We feel it is vitally important for all Orthodox Christians to make informed decisions about the Presidential race this Fall. Get informed to make and educated choice.

Email our web address to everyone you know and urge them to do the same.

  1. Vote Early and Help Others get to the Polls
The most important time your voice will be heard is at the polls on Election Day by voting early. Our brothers and sisters who do not drive and have other transportation barriers need your help. Offer to drive them to the polls to support our President who supports our values and recognizes the global terror network and is on the offensive.

  2. Continue to get Informed
The more you know the more people you can influence. Read the papers, surf the web, understand the issues and both parties’ positions. This activity will enlighten you and enable you to present a compelling argument to all you engage.

I have never been so frightened for the future as when I opened this website. I immediately recalled the description of the Beast wearing a blasphemous name in the Apocalypse when I saw the banner at the top.

hmmm.....
"Our father who art in the Whitehouse
hallowed be thy name
thy kingdom come again for four more years
thy will be done in every soveriegn state throughout the world,
as it is in the USA.
Give us this day our daily free trade
and forgive us our unamerican activities (such as seeking diplomatic solutions), as we forgive the shameless self-seeking of our career politicians.
And lead us not into co-existence, but deliver us from our enemies.
For thine is the kingdom (and every kingdom) and the power and the glory......"

George--

Do you vote in your country?

Christians are to be salt and light in this world. This can mean we take an interest in what happens here, and not let things go to hell because of our indifference. We render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's and to God the things that are God's. So we pay taxes, too, which gives us certain obligations and rights--including voting. Christians, in trying to be salt and light, should vote their conscience--that can mean either Bush or Kerry.

God does take an interest in politics to work his purposes--look at the Old Testament and see how God used Nebuchanezzer and the Babylonians (who gave the Jews a drubbing to teach them a lesson), Cyrus and the Persians (who sent back the Jews to rebuild the Temple.) It is true that the Democrats under Clinton and the UN today is eradicating Orthodoxy from the Balkans, so why wouldn't Serbs and other Slavs support the party who at least leaves them alone?

Yes, American is a SECULAR superpower on this little earth for now, but don't fear, maybe we'll be replaced with China and India in this century, and we'll see how they treat everyone. That we're now a superpower is because history dealt us that card and it is a statement of secular fact, not a conspiratorial attempt to push Christians into the arms of the Anti-Christ. That we're a superpower means we struggle every election with that responsibility and burden, especially when most Americans are isolationists at heart. Please do not equate America by itself with the Beast. Instead, include every country on earth who will certainly play their role for the Beast when the time comes.

The Pantocrater is indeed the true Superpower of the Universe, a much broader realm than mere earth. Rest assured that no Orthodox here has the Pantocrator confused with America, Bush or Kerry.

OCB is attracted to Bush because he supports a conservative Christian agenda in alignment with our core values and beliefs

The only conservative Christian position that Bush has is that he would stack the Supreme Court in order to overturn Roe v. Wade, and he is a coward for not being able to even say it. Without the abortion issue a huge segment of his support would evaporate. He knows that, and he plays to the Christian Coalition types because they're easy prey, he can get their vote without even trying.

puts people first and not big government

Tell that to all the people who live in poverty, and the folks who make $5.15 an hour, and the parents who can't afford to get their children adequate health care. The multi-national corporations who get tax breaks for out-sourcing jobs (in effect as a tax payer, you subsidize the elimination of your own job), the US corporations that have PO box adresses in Liechtenstein and the Bahamas get away with not paying taxes and do business with terrorist nations like Libya and Iran (can you say Halliburton?). Tell the insurance, drug (Searle, anybody?), energy and oil companies that Bush isn't your go-boy. They'll agree whole heartedly. Uh-huh.

recognizes the threat posed by radical Islamic terrorism throughout the world by which our ancestors have been victimized for centuries

Bush's war on terrorism has been unbelievably bungled, so poorly planned and executed that it nearly defies the imagination. I want to live in a safer world just like everyone else, but Bush and the neo-cons have abused the crisis of 9/11 to implement their own geopolitical fantasies. The world is a much more dangerous place for Bush's mishandling.

President Bush has declared a global attack on those who threaten our very existence.

Too bad for Bush since it takes a lot more to defeat terrorism than just declaring war and acting like an arrogant cowboy. I want a president who knows something about reality and who is capable of making informed decisions based on the best analyses available.

For centuries, Orthodox Christians have been persecuted and victimized by radical Islamists – an unsettling reality that continues today in Cyprus, Kosovo, Sudan, Chechnya and other places around the world.

What has Bush done for any of these places, besides ignore them?

The banner is in extremely bad taste. The only president that I would dare to link to the face of Christ would be Orthodox (and even then, I'm not so sure that I would be that bold), certainly not this Fundamentalist whack-job. This website laughably cannot even make a case for the current administration. In fact, they give better grades to Kerry/Edwards from the Greek community, and the rest is inconclusive, and betrays an absolute ignorance (or wilful deception) in regards to the political reality of Washington D.C.

Kerry would have a litmus test that all judges he appoints are pro-death. He was against the Partial-Birth-Abortion bill and Bush made it happen. To vote for Kerry is to vote for more abortion.

As for who works minimum wage jobs, that would be mostly teenagers who do not need to be paid $7.50 an hour and if they were then the employers would have to lay off more people since they copuld not afford to pay as many people at higher rates.

If you are below the poverty line you can get federal insurance called Medicaid. Most people who do not have insurance are waiting the 6 months after they start a job for it to kick in or choose not to get it. The liberal democrats fail to point that out when they demonize people with their stories.

Too bad for Bush since it takes a lot more to defeat terrorism than just declaring war and acting like an arrogant cowboy

One of my favorite lines from the Republican convention: "Some people have noted a certain swagger in me which in Texas we call... walking". Great line. /\ That cowboy has my vote. For me, it comes down to choosing between two parties, and it's plain to me (and maybe others disagree, that's why I didn't say "it's a fact") that one party officialy and publically supports and even promotes wholly unChristian beliefs such as murder and racism, while the other party at least says that they don't. Bush has really been in a no win situation on a lot of stuff. Politics is a game, and the main thrust of the game is: you get some of what you want if you let the other guy get some of what he wants. If a president compromises, those within his party criticise him; if he doesn't compromise, the other 60% of the country crticise him for being rigid and partisan and he can't get reelected. What's a President to do? They both paint themselves as moderates (with bones being thrown to various groups) because that's how our system works. I don't say that it's good that it works that way, but that's just (political) life in America today. You either play the game by the rules you find given to you, or you get disqualified. Don't hate the player, hate the game.
