I have ben incommunicado for the last 2 weeks because of this family situation. Here is something my mom wrote up to get everyone up to date, so I share it in hopes you will pray for Durward.
He had been bleeding internally for over a week and was in Fairbury (taken by ambulance from a flea market in Steele City) and Hebron hospitals before they finally transferred him up here.
Dad ended up falling off the commode flat on his belly Monday night. The next day (I think it was Tues.) they decided that they had to do surgery because an upper GI and colonoscopy did not show any bleeding. They also have done 3 nuclear studies to find out where bleeding is. In surgery they removed 3 feet of small intestine that had thumb sized pockets (diverticulosis) that apparently were bleeding. He has been on morphine and out of it since then. Last night when I saw him he was sitting up in bed with his glasses on. He told me he was done and asked me when the funeral was going to be. He had asked his nurse if he was going to die. Other than that he was pretty much with it and then would slip back into confusion again. He thought baby Aly was Kristin (Rod's 22 yr old) and then after Dennie and Rogene came with baby Celeste, he thought Aly was Celeste. (Aly has a lot of brownish red hair and Celeste has very little very blonde hair and looks bald)
This morning when I called they said he slept pretty much all night and all signs were good. He isn't taking anymore blood since his hemoglobin is up to 9.2 (it still needs to be up to about 12). He has had about 15 - 16 pints of blood in 2 weeks. He wasn't putting out enough urine, so they put him on dialysis Thurs & Fri and don't have any ordered for today. I guess that jump starts the kidneys after surgery when the kidneys were still sleeping.
