I'm no expert, but let me try to express my view. Take it or leave it, as you will.
When our body needs water, we thirst. When our stomachs ache, we need food. When we thirst and are given a brick, we KNOW that it is not what we need. When our stomachs ache and we are given a piece of wood, we know that this is not what we need.
When we seek spiritual comfort and get something else, then that person is not the one to give it to us. As to my previous example, someone else might give another person the brick, but it helps him to finish his house. Or someone might give another person a piece of wood and will help him to finish his door.
What I'm saying is that the priest is not a bad person, in general, he is just not the one to help you with what you need. So, keep searching for the one person that will help you to understand. There are so many people in the world, but they cannot all be friends to each other, because they are not there for each other in the way someone can be there for you or me.
I don't have a specific quote from a Holy Father, but I do remember the message. Choose your spiritual father carefully. There is nothing wrong with that. Because if you have a spiritual father that does not think the way you do, about the tradition responsibilities, then you will be scandalized by him and he will be scandalized by what you tell him...and both of you will be sinning due to that scandalizing.
I hope I wasn't too confusing in my response. Please let me know if I need to clarify any of my comments.
