"Road to Emmaus"

Post by OrthoPhile »

Hello,
I recently saw in an issue of "Touchstone" an advert for an Orthodox periodical, "Road to Emmaus". Has anyone ever heard of it? A friend of mine said it was published by the Christ the Saviour Brotherhood. Anyone know who they are? I seem to remember something about them and some group called the Order of Man?????

Actually, it was the Group of Herman Podomshensky's run-away. (Former Fr. Herman was abbot and Great Schema monk of the Monastery of Saint Herman of Alaska in Platina, which he has founded with his best friend Elder Seraphim Rose of thrice-blessed memory, who will soon be glorified for his great missionary work for Orthodoxy). Elder Seraphim was able to be his spiritual father, even thought Father Seraphim wasn't Abbot, the Abbot went to him. Being a former homosexual (which sadly he returned to being again) once the holy dormition of Elder Seraphim has occured, Fr. Herman went berserk. He couldn't go over it because he lost his spiritual Father and best friend. He started again with his homosexual actions and was defrocked of being an Orthodox priest by his diocese the ROCOR. He went to child abuser group of Mans. Watch out! They are not Orthodox!

The Road to Emmaus (a Journal of Orthodox Faith and Culture). I think of it as being Orthodoxy's National Geographic. The quarterly journal usually features extensive interviews and articles on contemporary Orthodox culture in Europe and elsewhere. The most recent edition features a long lengthy interview with a native priest in the Congo, Fr. Theotimos (who is a spiritual son of Fr. Cosmas of Zaire). RtE this quarter also features a selection of letters written by Fr. Cosmas.

In the past year, there have been articles on the Orthodox history and tradition in Ireland, Brittany, France, Corsica, as well as an issue devoted to the 100th anniversary of the canonization of St. Seraphim of Sarov, Diveyevo, etc.

It is published by the Christ the Savior Orthodox Brotherhood. Some of it's members belonged to an organization called the Holy Order of MANS (long defunct) prior to their conversion to Orthodoxy. Their path to Orthodoxy was not pretty, granted, but I don't think that gives anyone the right to throw stones. If anyone can prove that the people who publish this journal are not Orthodox, I'd be quite surprised.

that magazine is great. I highly recommend it.
