Name-Worhipping in the ROAC???

Post by scyldscefing »

I've have read conflicting reports that Metropolitan Valentine made supporting statements of the name worshipping heresy. Whilst Bishop Gregory was under that omophorion he had made (as to what I perceive) no direct rebuttal to that claim. I respect Abp. Gregory and I would like clear answers on this subject. If anyone has any evidence against or for such a thing I invite you to post wildly on this topic! I'm not trying to spread rumors but I'd like to see this question answered!
Remember how Metropolitan Anthony (Galysnky Mikhailovski) was slandered in this way! though I wouldn't put it past Met. Valentine of late....

Hail, Scyld Scefing!

As a thrice-removed neophyte, I must ask...

What are you talking about?

No and this is why Hieromonk Gregoy Lourie was retired by the synod of the ROAC, for teaching name-worshiping.

The Worshippers of the Name were a group of heretics that sprung up, I believe,on the Holy Mountain, of all places, at the turn of last century. They believed that the very Name of Our Lord on the lips of praying Christians contained the Divine Presence, like the Eucharist. Grigori Rasputin was alleged to have subscribed to this heresy.

scyldscefing,

Recent events in the ROAC regarding name-worshipping predate any of the scandals involving gregory of Colorado. This means that Gregory was (or should have been) well aware.

In addition, I would add that the name-worshipping heresy does not seem to bother Gregory at all. Four priests recently went to the ROAC from the Lamians under Makarios precisley because of this heresy. Now gregory of Colorado (and those with him) consider the Lamians the last bastion of Orthodoxy - so much for that idea.

Who exactly are the Lamians? They must go by a different name. When I entered this into a search engine, all I got were a bunch of H.P. Lovecraft roleplaying game sites about a cult of snake worshippers. Doesn't sound like the same group of people to me. :)
