A book in the wings?

Post by Seraphim Reeves »

It would seem with all of the documentary evidences, statements, decrees, etc. floating around from the various figures in the Church Calendarist milieu, there is a really good opportunity being left for someone with sufficient time and translating resources to publish a single tome in English covering this topic. My understanding is that there are several books generally of this type in Greek, and a few decent ones in English, but most end up having their results comprimised by the agenda of the author (typically it ends up being an apology for his particular Church.)

I think it would be interesting if a book would be authored which made some attempt at covering all sides from a non-polemical angle; the biggest sign of which (I think) would be if it showed the positive and blemishes of all parties involved.

At the very least, a volume containing the type of information Austindoc has been posting here (pre-1920 local and pan-Orthodox statements against the adoption of the Gregorian calendar), but in much more detail and with careful notation about the exact dates and circumstances of these documents (including obviously the documents themselves in full) would be invaluable in making sense of this issue.

As for existing works - could people here recommend to me a list of such works, preferably from different perspectives? Also, how or where to obtain these works would be greatly appreciated.

Oh yes, I'm also an English speaker - so unfortunately works in Greek will do me little good. :(

Yes, such a carefully and fairly researched work would be very welcome. Some time ago a priest suggested to me the very same thing and I replied the task would be considerable. If someone does I may be interested in purchasing a copy or two................
