I was reading on that Byzantine Catholic site about a wonderful event that took place not to long ago at the Hagia Sophia.
As you know because of Islamic law any building once used as a mosque can not be used as a place of worship for another faith.
Apparently, after the Millennium of Christianity in Ukraine-Rus (Catholic Rite) celebrations in Rome in 1988 a select small number (about +100) of the members youth group left Rome for Costantinople. The went to meet with the Greek Orthodox Patriarch and visit the great shrine of Hagia Sophia.
It would appear that they were unaware of the law banning any form of Christian worship in the great shrine. hile standing in the middle of the church, they sang two well known Ukie Christian prayers. By the time they finished, they were surrounded by dozens of Turkish police officers who were yelling and forcing them out of the Hagia Sofia with clubs. For a brief period of time, on a hot summer day, in the summer of 1988, to show their thanks for the great gift of Christian Orthodoxy, 100 brave youths worshiped out loud in the Hagia Sophia. They made a great video of the event.
I thought this was wonderful story that I want share on this forum!
