I would never venture to doubt or contradict the Holy Fathers, they are of course THE only interpretation that is sound and true. Any ideas we might have are petty and worthless.

Having said that, I often considered that Revelations does not mention the word "Antichrist" anywhere. It only mentions the "Beast". Elsewhere in Holy Scripture the word "beast" in any prophecy always refers to kingdoms and empires.

So to wit, I have myself wondered if there are prophecies of the "Antichrist" who is clearly a man, but also prophecies of an empire, perhaps that may even be a cultural empire such as we have today in decadent Western culture?

I was reluctant to say this since I don't want to encourage Tom's independent thinking any more than it is. :)

Sounds like Tom is trying to be the devil's advocate. Jesus Christ talked to the devil, in person. So evil is in the form of created beings. The anti-christ is the devil's last, and unsuccessful attempt to destroy mankind's soul.

I read the end of the chapter, so I know the final outcome.

Somebody accused me of being a protestant, a few days ago. But, what Tom has said sounds along that line.

No serious-minded Orthodox would even believe that rubble.

As to your answer Nectari, I'm in it too.

A lot of times, there are people who claim to be Orthodox who come into these forums and try to slip in elusive suggestions.

A person who is Orthodox, will be able to recognize that in a mintue.

You read WAY too much doubt in me because of my posts.

Well...I was making an assesment not only of this one post but from over a year of reading many of them and you have to admit that you sometimes can give off the impression I got. I don't know you personally so what other than your posts can I make an assesment by?Besides, are you saying that you hold one opinion in your posts and a different one in real life. If that is the case, I am at a loss to see the point.

Anyway, if I offended you, I am sorry. But you certainly don't seem like the type that is easily offended. Right? :)

In Christ,

Nicholas

Josia,

I think you are starting to get more and more personal and offensive in your posts. Please don't let that tendency take over. No one needs it. I am sure Tom isn not trying to be the devil's advocate here, he was simply stating his opinion.

Besides, it goes without saying that Tom's opinions are not only influenced by but almost 100% Protestant . But you don't have to be offensive about it.:)

Nick,

You don't have to apologize to him. You have every right to say what you feel as he does. Do you think he apologizes to anybody?

Don't sell yourself so short. Stand up and have some arhetheis.
