<<sigh>> I've seen this kind of thing before. Don't worry about it. It's always been there. People just want to deny the spiritual warefare.
Prophesy of St. John of Shanghai - birth of the anti-christ
I do not think that it really is possible for one who were to call themselves an Orthodox Christian to deny the spiritual warfare in the world.
- Throughout the Book of Grnrsis we see the snares of the Devil.
- We see the war in heaven.
- We see in the New Testament how the devil (sometimes, many times through others), wanted ot destroy the Christ child and the Mother of God.
- The Masacre of the 144,000 Innicents on Bethlehem.
- The Temptation of Christ in the Desert.
- The three-fold Denial of Peter
The list goes on and on and it is throughout the Old and New Testament.
To some the following examples can be taken in a humanistic tome where those of us (imcl. the Fathers) would seem pbsessed wit hthe evil one in Scripture, but ther bottom line is if you look at the Patristics of these stories you will see where the mind of the Fathers stand on all of these issues. They all say the same thing.
The warefare of the devil never sleeps. Even unto the present age.
Saint Peter the apostle put it best in his 1st Epistle:
Be sober and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls about the world like a roasring lion awating those souls which he might devour."

Yeah. I guess I do take some time to get used to.
My style is pretty direct -- but I don't mean any disrespect by it -- I am just the type of person who writes to the point (unless I have had too much Ouzo!)

Well Tom,
I'm pretty direct too. So expect more of it. I hope people will get used to me too.
but I don't mean any disrespect by it
You also don't offer any direct apology when someone tells you that you HAVE been offensive. You just make indirect comments to someone else's comment.

St. John's AntiChrist "prophecy"
Dear in Christ Joanna,
Code: Select all
I too have heard such a story about St. John; however, in my version he was walking down a side walk with a few people and stopped...seeming in shock, and when asked what the problem was, he supposedly mentioned that AntiChrist was born.
I was told this story by a former ROCOR monk from Platina, who may have heard this from Fr. Herman or Fr. Seraphim Rose.
Anyway, I'm new to this List and thought I'd add this to your original post. (Seems like it got off track.)

Thanks for the imput. It's something I need to settle. I thought I could put the question out there and get simple yes or no replies. And I know I've seen it written about, somewhere.
Tom,
It's the sigh you started off with and the need to mention your age as if there is any wisdom that goes with it. Also, the "Relax" comment.
But, there have been people who have heard of this and that's all I want to get to the bottom of. It's mostly ROCA people that know about it.
