I'm attending a choral concert, of selections Psalter, on Sunday afternoon at Holy Protection Cathedral, the ROCOR Cathedral in Chicago (well, Des Plaines). I was surprised, I mst admit, to see that the Society of St. Romanos was holding this at the ROCOR Cathedral.
I assume it would be a good idea to wear a headcovering in the church, even though I'm not attending a worship service? And yes, I will be dressed as I will be for regular church.

I guess I was just suprised because the St. Romanos Society is a "cooperative" effort between all the Orthodox in the Chicago area, but then when I looked at the group's wesbite, both Bishop (Archbishop?) Alypy and Bishop Peter are listed on the advisory board. I had gotten the impression that ROCOR wasn't involved in anything with the SCOBA jurisdictions, so this came as a pleasant suprise. But since it promotes Orthodox "culture" guess that's different.
I've heard the Cathedral's iconography is excellent, so I'm looking forward to seeing it!

The concert today was just lovely. And the Church was even better! Oh, the iconography! Wow!
Bishop Peter was at the concert, as well as Archbishop Job (OCA).

Forgot to mention...after asking the headcovering question, this was on my mind...aside from myself and one other woman from my parish, there were only two or three other women wearing something on their heads. The majority of the audience were cathedral parishioners, so this suprised me.

It does seem a little strange though to use a cathedral or church as a concert hall, even if it is religious music. When I was in the choir at the Holy Resurrection Cathedral in Tokyo, if we had a concert it was always in the hall, never the Church. The one exception was when we recorded a CD, but I think that was probably for better acoustics, and also a Priest and Deacon were involved too for the Litanies.

DUH! This is what I have been trying to tell everyone on this site, head coverings are no longer a sign of someone being a pious Orthodox! It is a sign of someone clinging to a cultural tradition.
