Ecumenist (con-)celebration of MP in Italy

Post by Reader Luca »

Dear friends,
I want to report you the URL of the MP's parish of Milan :

http://www.ortodossia.info/Multimedia/C ... .html#vedi

where it is possible to view the celebration of the Vesper in occasion of the catholic Jubilee 2000 (in front of the Holy Shroud) , presided over by Metropolitan Kirill at the presence of latin "archbishop" of Turin Severino Poletto and celebrated by an italian hieromonk of the MP .
I'm glad to show you how the celebrant , after having incensed Metropolitan Kirill, then incenses the papist "archbishop" as a normal Orthodox Bishop , besides the incensig of the roman catholic clergy present by the sides of the altar (notice how RC clergy seems to actively partecipate to the prayers in this function!) .
Is this the "would-be traditionalism" of the Moscow Patriarchate ?!? Unfortunately these episodes are only few examples of the systematic ecumenism of our roman-catholic Country (Ecumenical Patriarchate , Moscow Patriarchate, Serbian Patriarchate...).
On which bases the dialogue with R.O.C.O.R. will happened , considering the unrepentant ecumenistic policy of MP ?
The celebration is divided in 7 parts , in "Visione Online" it's possible to view on line the Vesper in a normal RealOne Player browser , in "Versione scaricabile" the 7 parts are downloadable .

I don't know about some churches, but in all the ones I've ever attended the priest censes everyone present. I've never seen a priest ask for Church affiliation before he censes them. Maybe asking this is standard protocol in some places...hmmm.

Where's the problem?

Even in ROCOR in the 1950's there were cases where visiting Roman Catholic hiearchs were invited to sit in the altar area. Seems like a common courtesy to me. While it probably isn't advisable now, I don't see how that is "blatantly heretical."

I don't speak Italian, but it sounded to me as if he just commemorated Patriarch Alexei, Metropolitan Kirill, and Bishop Innokenty during the Great Litany. Where did you hear the Catholics mentioned?

It looks as though this was an Orthodox service with Roman Catholic clergymen on the altar. It's happened during Patriarch Tikhon's days as well as Metropolitan Vitaly's.

Dear all, the celebrant commemorates only Patriarch Alexei, Metropolitan Kirill, and Bishop Innokenty but , in my opinion, the scandal in this sad episode is that of an official celebration of an Orthodox Vesper with roman-catholics during the solemn "Jubilee 2000" in the main Cathedral of Turin ... Did Apostolic Canons (i.e. Canons of Holy Apostles n° 10 , 11, 45 ,65 ) forbid not only liturgical (con-)celebration but also common prayers with heretics ?
These ecumenical courtesies are very frequent here in Italy, in fact Vatican gives RC churches to Official Patriarchates (EP , MP , SP) so they are forced to similar ecumenistic activities: they have no missionary activities but only ethnic assistance in Sunday, official orthodox church can't do pastoral work nor evangelisation : this is the ecumenical religious reality in Italy!
I'm sorry for my horrible use of English language !
