New ROAC America site!

Post by 尼古拉前执事 »

After many months of work in emulating the proposed Flash site that is not yet ready for prime time, I would like to point you to the new ROAC America site that has been redesigned in time for Pentecost:

Nicholas,

Even with a high speed broad band connection it is unbearably slow. Quite what it is like with dial up I don't care to imagine :(

I have DSL, and it loads very quickly. However, out of consideration to people with slower connections, I think the audio content needs to be totally optional (IOW, it does not load at all unless someone chooses to press play). I think that is what is causing grief for some people, since the page itself is actually quite clean and uncluttered.

The audio is loaded in "stopped" position for me. I have to press "play". I have a broadband connection and experience almost no load time, and from reviewing the contents, I am at a loss why anyone with a dial-up should have a problem.

Perhaps the audio is being loaded regardless if it is played or not? That could be the reason; and cause the server to spend bandwidth unnessesarily. I don't know much about media player but thought it could be set to load only when "play" was pressed?

One problem I did have (IE) is the page first loads a blank white screen and says "done" in the bottom left corner status bar. I have to refresh to see the site.

Thanks for the feedback on your experience of using this site. I tried it again - bearing in mind the helpful and positive comments - and it was quicker but still found the switching between html and pdf without warning disconcerting. It certainly wasn't working like this on the first visit, some gremlim tinkering with the technical gobbins no doubt :?
