Recommendations: Orthodox Periodicals

Post by TomS »

I am looking for recommendations of some good Orthodox periodicals.

Interested in a mix of both "Ultra-Traditional", "Traditional" and "Modern" Orthodox viewpoints on theology, Church history, Church Fathers, etc.

Thanks!

Tom,

You might try "The Shepherd", produced by the Monastic community at Brookwood, Surrey, England. E-mail address is theshepherd@mac.com

The community is a ROCOR one, traditional. The Igumen, Father Alexis, is well aware that a popular and affectionate nick-name for the periodical is "The Wolf"..............

Saint John of Kronstadt Press has a decent periodical and Dormition Skete used to put out a good one called Voice of Orthodoxy in America, of which, back issues are available.

Orthodox America reflects what ROCA used to be like before it was declared that ROCA was never like that. Old issues can be found at

The Saint Edward Brotherhood, Brookwood, England, has made their periodical, "The Shepherd", available at -

http://www.saintedwardbrotherhood.org

Their magazine has always been a usefull and eclectic mix from this traditional monastic brotherhood.

Orthodox Tradition by the Etna group is quite excellent.

Please note that I do not subscribe to "Old Calendar Ecumenism" and believe that only the Synod of Archbishop Kallinikos is the canonical GOC of Greece. I do believe, however, that we can break down barriers and misunderstandings through prayer and discussion on forums such as this one.

They also offer some pretty good books on this page of the same web site.

Click on "Ecumenism:Critiques" and check out all the titles. I would like to have a copy of each of those books.
