Eastern Orthodox Prayer Book

Post by Ben Jamin »

Christ is Risen!

I was wondering if anyone could recomend a good Eastern Orthodox prayer book.

I currently have "A Manual of Eastern Orthodox Prayers" published by St. Vladimir's Seminary Press. I love it and so far it is the best I have come by, but I'm wondering if anyone here would like to recomend one.

Thanks.

I would definitely put my voice behind both the Jordanville (Holy Trinity) Prayer Book and the Old Believers Prayer Book.

My wife and I tend to use a mixture of various prayer books, including the Jordanville and Antiochian one (the Antiochian one has prayers that the Jordanville--much to my amazement--doesn't, like prayers said before the icons of saints). We compile/edit the prayers (typos, archaic language, etc.) and print them out and read them from sheets of paper.

I was thinking of doing this myself. It sounds like a good idea!

I ask the heiromonk who sent me the Jordanville Prayer book a question about mutipule. One Prayer book is enough, was the answer I recieved.
Intresting. I dont even use the Antiochian Prayer book its dinky, and I am Antiochian Orthodox. The Jordanville is much better, content and looks wise.

I agree with the rest of the users on this board about the Jordanville Prayer Book. I also think that the Manual of Eastern Orthodox Prayers you mention is an excellent choice as well (I have an old edition from the Brotherhood of Sts. Alban and Sergius in English that I found in my parish library).

In Christ,
