Phyletism as a Heresy

Post by Daniel »

Does any one have any information on this? I have only read about it for the first time in the essay ECCLESIOLOGY OF A RETREATING ARMY by Basil Lourie, and I'm not quite following what he says. I'm kinda slow some times :)

I think it has to do with nationalism and tying in nationalism with one's religion. A lot of Churches have broken away from Constantinople and become "autocephalous" over the past few centuries; some of these Churches went a bit too far in identifying and blending their national/cultural traditions with the Church. Or so I've been told.
