ROCOR

Post by Ben Jamin »

Greetings.

I am not Orthodox and I am quite ignorant to the current position of ROCOR, so please help me out here.

When I read this interview with Metropolitan Laurus I was surprised. I was under the impression that the MP and ROCOR weren't so close that "..... it would seem, there are no obstacles for unification".

Please read the interview and explain to me what exactly is the current situation between ROCOR and the MP.

:) Thanks!

I hear that the only obstiacle is the renunciation ecumenism and the renunication of sergianism. Thats what I hear from a ROCOR monastic.

It depends on who you ask :) I think there are a lot of issues that should be delved into before union happens, including the issue of who the MP is in communion with. Whether all these issues will be gone into is up in the air.

Though a lot of people here don't particularly think highly of Met. Lavr, I can say with absolute confidence that while he is in charge in ROCOR, nothing will be jumped into without a lot of prayer, research, and dialogue. There are several of bishops who lean one way or the other, but Met. Lavr was chosen specifically because he is a moderate. Things are progressing (or regressing some people here would say) slowly.

So, would it be safe to say since ROCOR has no offical opinion on this, that it is open to opinion? You could be pro-union with the MP or anti-union, without really going against any offical statement or position of ROCOR, right?

Thanks Nektarios! I'm sorry if I'm bugging you all with questions that have already been discussed here, but I'm just a curious Catholic.
