Bart accepts popes apology??

I guess I am left scratching my head on this one. I never thought the pope was actually that old to be involved with the sacking of Constantinople. Now I am left wondering when the Turks will apologize, and if they do, maybe they will give it back.

Now that the pope apologized, does that mean he will return the Shroud and a host of other treasures stolen from Constantinople which still adorn the Vatican?

Seriously. I suppose some people may see this as a good thing but upon reflection it is really quite meaningless and stupid. Now if he repented of a heresy that would be amazing!

Orthodoxy,

ow that the pope apologized, does that mean he will return the Shroud and a host of other treasures stolen from Constantinople which still adorn the Vatican?

Yes! Many items have already been returned to the Church and still many others are in the process of being returned.

I am a Christian. As a Christian it is my duty to forgive my brothers and sisters. I am shocked when I hear replies by people who are unwilling to forgive. I think the Pope has done a great thing!

God Bless!

Seeker,

That is my point. Does the pope honestly think "we", and I use that term very loosley, are that bad of Christians that we are holding some grudge against him for what ancient peoples did to each other? And that this would be an important factor in a separation between him and the new-calendarists?

Maybe I'm just not that bright, but after 80 years of ecumenism and the new calendarists selling the faith and modernizing to the Popes standards, this is all they get, an apology about what his Crusdaers did some 800 years ago??

Has anyone ever seen "Nosferatu", the silent horror film. Whenever we see the "Pope" on TV my dad goes insane with laughter because I once likened him to Nosferatu, now in his old age that is. I am terrible.

Orthodoxy,

I see your point but I think the Pope somehow feels responsible as head of the Roman Catholic Church to right wrongs in the past. Forgiveness is always a good thing. I think this is from God and we should not be so quick to judge.

Might I add that there is NOTHING wrong with Ecumenism as long as one does not compromise truth.

God Bless!

One might be interested in the critical notes of John Ruskin relating to St. Mark's cathedral in Venice:

In brief, he determines the structure to be essentially Byzantine though he interates that this does not mean any work was done by Greeks. He describes it as a treasure heap of gold and and foaming marble reaching up to heaven.

He notes the building's effect on the 1800's era Italian crowd outside, a shiftless rabble of discarded humanity.

He describes the interior of St. Mark's and a few pathetic worshippers. St. Mark's, he says, bears all the features of a pagan temple: dim, flickering light; deep, dark recesses; glowing treasures... all of which he regards as classic superficialities designed to inspire awe in the ignorant, of whom he gives examples by account of the worshippers in the place at the time of his visit.

Ruskin believes that St. Mark's cathedral lacks integrity of impression for being the counterfeit of a great temple, in fine, that St. Mark's is nothing more than a priceless example of BAD ARCHITECTURE.

Sincerely:
Joseph
