I'm thoroughly convinced....

.....that the only way for one to achieve salvation in this life is to throw away the cigarettes, whiskey, and wild wild women....and to invest into a quality hair shirt, made in Lebanon preferably, sell everything you have, embrace suffering and be prepared to be spit on, beaten on, and even killed for the Faith.

It always amazes me that so-called traditional Orthodox Christians smoke cigarettes. I know it's an addiction, but then again, so is being a freemason and an ecumenist. Break the habit. Go to Sinai. Wear a hair shirt. Make komboskinis. That's my plan....

Well my husband smokes, has since he was 14. It's bad and I pray for him to stop but at least he doesn't stay out all night, cheat on me, beat me and our kids. He wakes up and smokes with his coffee. Basically what I am saying is it's a sin, but I find drinking to be way worse. St. Nikolaj Velimirovic smoked. What do you think of that?

Did he smoke all his life? This is the first time I have heard this. You may very well be right. I apologize if I offended. Not my intention.

NO YOU DID NOT OFFEND ME!!! :D

Actually I really like your posts and your weird sense of humor, like mine. LOL.

St. Nikolaj was good a very good friend of my Grandfather and used to stay at his house when he came to America. I don't know whether he smoked all his life, but he was a smoker and the Serbian church took a long time to canonize him because of that. :(

Anyways-smoking is bad, but I don't judge anyone who smokes because I do worse stuff than that almost daily.

Please don't think you offended me. It's hard to post things because you cannot type the intonation of your voice and people can take you wrong.

In Christ

I wonder how many of the Martyrs of Russia (under the communists) were smokers? Or the Greeks who were martyred by the Turks? Either way, that's martyrdom, not exactly the same as being made a saint for your work in the world. And the bottom line is, it's a bad habit that nobody should get into.
