The Germans went from Barbarian polytheists to semi-Arians to filioque-using Papists to Protestants... when exactly were they holy? :P

PS. I mean no offense to Germans, of course... is an attempt at a joke :) I realise that there were German Saints and pious people in God'sChurch.

"RUSSIAN! Bah! I love Russians, but when the statement "If you are not Russian, you are not Ortodox!" came flying at me, I decided ...."See ya!""

You know, I feel like that whenever I go to a Greek Church...& I am Russian! I don't get it.

& to think, I always thought that the Russians and Greeks were close...

Aron Benson:

RUSSIAN! cardiac arrest time God help me. Give me a Serbian liturgy anytime over a Russian one! crowd gasps

Boy I don't know. I go to Serbian church and believe me I wish for a Russian one. Here is the breakdown of who is doing what during Serbian Liturgy...

25% of people are in church, 12.5%of that up in the choir loft, 5% are in the altar=priests and altar boys

25% are outside smoking waiting for the sermon to be over so they can take communion (LOL) and not come to church again all year

25% are in the hall counting money, fighting about dues, or bad mouthing father.

the remaning 25% are at the bar drinking slivovitz at 9:30 in the morning out of anythink they can find-even dirty ash trays (I even saw this REALLY)

Gotta love dem Serbs. I am being sacrcastic and I am not.

Hello Tessa,

I love Serbs! They're wonderful people. I've never encountered what you are talking about. On the contrary, my experience has been horrible with Russians. The grandmothers always hit everyone with their canes. I think my association with Russians and their church ended when I told them that they if even think about hitting me with a cane or any other foreign object, that I would beat them silly. They looked shocked. Too bad for them. They drive people away with their type of attitude. Anyone that has spent ANY major time in both the Russian and Greek churches will confirm...Greeks are MUCH more hospitable in the end and they do tithe, which seems to be lacking among the Russians. sigh

Actually I think that the experiences one has can be the same with either group. I believe largely in the idea that it all depends on your attitude. I walked into a Greek Church participated in the Liturgy, and went to their social gathering afterwards and the entire time noone said a word. On the contrary, I went to a Russian Church and was welcomed, was made a part of the community, was welcomed into their homes...

Funny thing is, I am not Russian, I am Greek. I feel more at home with the Russians that I do with Greeks. It is all about perception and comfort for me at least.

My 2 cents...

Dear Aaron:

The hospitality of the Greeks is because the Greeks are SOUTH of Russia.

btw, this post too was and continues to be a joke.
