I am thinking, what would St Justin Popovich say about this film? What would St John of Shanghia and San Fransisco say about it? What would Father Seraphim Rose say or Archbishop Averky? What would St Nikolai or St Theophan or St Ignatius advise the Orthodox Christians concerning this film?

I know what I think they would say, and I am going to follow the advice that I imagine they would give me.

The man playing our Lord in this movie, when he was "working" on Golgotha, was struck by lightning. I assume Catholics can believe in impersonal forces, but surely we must be very careful with this movie, even just avoiding and ignoring it until the hype has passed.

We should instill the heterodox with what Elder Paisios called the "blessed discomfort" by showing them that the Orthodox do not even care about this film that has captured them so completely, being, as they are, without anything.

IMHO, if one wants to present a flagellation and crucifixion in realistic images, such scenes cannot be different than the ones presented in the film. A little historical research shows that such instruments of torture as used in the film existed and were intended for such cruel results.

I also agree with Seraphim who so well presented the present case:

"Is it the "perfect film"? No, even given it's stated goals, there are things that I think could have been added which would have enhanced it tremendously. Is it a very good film? Definately. Is it better than anything else out there right now? Without a doubt. It's been no end of amusement/sadness for me, that this film has been subjected to the amount of criticism it has been, when most of what passes for entertainment now days is undoubtedly ruinous to family, morality, and round aboutly, the peace and well being of our civilization - and of course, said garbage will be released without similar cries of obnoxious/feigned moral outrage."

Does anyone truly believe that Jim Caviezel was struck by lightning because he is a Roman Catholic?

Does anyone still believe in coincidence?

  :ohvey:

I dont know why the man was struck by lightning, and I dont know if anyone thinks it happened because he was Catholic.

Forgive me anyone who thought I was saying that he was struck by lightning because of what he believes in.

I dont believe in coincidence.

Im sorry about my post.

Hello Away,

Do not apologize for your post! I believe that I misunderstood what you meant, in which case I am the one who needs to apologize.

So, on that note, I am very truly sorry.

In Christ,
Aaron

Thanks Aaron, everything is cool then.

My post was a bit silly though, I reckon. No wonder it was misunderstood.

Have a good Lent. I am having a good Lent I think, even though I am bad, because people all around are being merciful and kind to me.
