I am kind of scared to see it because I have a very weak stomach and from all of the reviews I have read, it is very, very violent and gorey. If anyone has seen it, please comment on this-I dont want to have to run out of the movie!
Mel Gibson & Icon productions' THE PASSION Movie Trailer
FROM YAHOO NEWS:
A Kansas woman died Wednesday after watching Mel Gibson's new film, "The Passion Of The Christ.
Fifty-six-year-old Peggy Law, collapsed during the first public showing at the Warren Theater in east Wichita. She suffered a heart attack during a climactic scene in the film, KMBC reported.
"It was during the time that they were crucifying Christ, and putting the nails in his hands and feet," one witness said.
Off-duty medical personnel at the theater tried to revive Law, but when she was taken away by an ambulance, she had no pulse. She was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.
I think personally I will skip this movie. People said the movie was graphic, but aren't we missing the point in the true Passion of Christ itself in the first place?
Maybe its just me.

Natasha,
Being a Latin Catholic both in the "New Rite" and the "Old Latin", it seems that the focus is placed on the physical suffering of Christ and that thisis the pervading point in much of the the theology.
I used to know a priest who would tell people, "If you dont suffer (physically) for your sins God does not forgive them."
Many of the penances of this priest as well as almost all Latin priests I knew were very keen on physical corpral punishment.
This is the mindset that I think Gibson is going in with. "If we cant see the gore and the suffering we just wont understand what it was all about." It is very tied in with the theology of the Latins.

I wonder if the movie was any other movie and something similar
happened if it would have made the news. Say someone was
watching the "Lord of the Rings" and had a heart attack and died.
I am sure in the history of movies that more than one individual
has died in a movie theatre of a heart attack. Why make this
a news item. Because of the film and all the controversy that
it has caused. The supposed anti-semitism, etc. Frankly I think
the enemy wouldn't want anyone to see this movie. I plan on
going to see it.
Oh, also, was it the movie that caused the death, or was it merely
God's call upon this person's life? "It is once appointed unto man
to die".....
With humble bow,

Although I have not yet seen the movie, I do plan on seeing it at least once and if it is as good as I hope it is and a few of my friends and family will also want to see it, more than once.
I know that the movie is supposed to be very violent, but aside from the fact that yes, Mel Gibson is a traditional Roman Catholic, perhaps he was also trying to show exactly how violent a death by crucifixion could be.
I have also heard that the film has a very profound scene which is all about the Eucharist.
Regardless of what anyone says, I think people should see it for themselves and see what they think - that is what I am going to do.

Brethern in Christ,
I saw the Passion today and presently a Catholic I would recommend it to be viewed by my Eastern brethern, the relationship between our Lord and His holy Mother displayed has enhanced my feelings and insight.
Please put aside your thoughts and other people's judgements till you actually see it.
We all come away with different views and feelings. With the garbage in theaters and on tv today this is refreshing and enlighting.
