Prayers for my family and a subtle announcement

Post by 尼古拉前执事 »

I was going to announce it on the Sunday of Orthodoxy, as that seemed fitting, but someone is going around telling people about this in a way to try and cause scandal, so I will announce it now.

After much prayer and discernment, including studying the issues from both sides of the table, going as far as to ask the ROCOR synod for ukazes and the like, my family has decided to join ROAC.

I have moved to Colorado and am helping build up a mission church here. Originally I was going to be transfered by my job but within days of my move my boss' bosses decided against it, and just yesterday I found a new job to supplement the jobs that my old work has given me to do for direct pay.

Unfortunately there are people trying to ruin our Great Lent by attacking us for this decision, so I ask your prayers for us. Thank you in advance.

Nicholas,

You have my prayers as well as Nikita's. Congrats on the job by the way. Did you know I got a job yesterday too?! How groovy! LOL

We shall trudge through Great Lent and at many times the devil will be at our heels. But with patience and perserverance and prayer and fasting we shalll overcome the enemy and cast him out of our presence. Not of our own volition, but vecause the Lord has commanded that we fight and He will vanquish the evil from us.

I know how hard this is. I have been there and I can tell you that things can only get better with the mercy and justice of God.

Be at peace.

Nicholas, if I'm not mistaken your family consists of you and your young daugther. That being the case, how did your family decide? How can a very young girl decide she wants to do something like this? I'd imagine being re-chrismated would be confusing for a young person.

I gave her all the documents that I had read on the various decisions and without making my views known asked her what she thought. That is how I did it. Her conclusion was identical to mine and she was not confused at all but elated.

Am I mistaken, or is she around 11 years old? You gave your pre-teen daugther "documents" related to the ROCOR/ROAC schism, and the history of the Church Abroad, and asked her to make her own decision?

My very intelligent daughter can understand these things. She reads at a high school level and is very devout. To many they are very clear. I did not ask her for a decision, she knew I was reading them and asked what they were. So I let her read them and in doing so she saw what was going on. I did not demand an answer of her or anything, I just let her read them all and on her own she contributed that this would be the best idea. I, of course, already knew this to be so.

Nicholas --

Can you elaborate on the nature of your conclusion? What was it that made you choose ROAC?

BTW, I am not trying to be confrentational.

Greg
