I just found out today that I will be recieved into the Antiochian Orthodox Church by baptism this New Calendar Pascha, April 10th. I was suprised. I found out that I was going to be recieved this soon in the parish bulleton.

I will have only been a catechumen for 4 Months before I become Orthodox.

Dear Orthodoxlearner,

Welcome home!

Dear Romiosini,

All of Orthodoxy is within the old calendar Paschalion not the new one.

Unfortunately, that is not the case.

The Church of Finland uses the Gregorian calender, so they always celebrate the Ressurection of our Lord and all connected Feasts on the same date as the RC's and the Protestants, instead of together with Holy Orthodoxy :ohvey: :ohvey: :ohvey:

Furthermore, I know of at least one parish within a cannonical Orthodox Church that uses the Gregorian calender.

Living in Greece, and being an Orthodox christian (or at least, trying to be one) under the jurisdiction of HB, Archbishop Christodoulos, I also follow the new calender.
My personal opinion is that any calender, in itself, is not bad or graceless or unOrthodox, since it is just a tool to measure time.
Therefore, I cannot agree with certain Old-Calenderists who condemn New-Calenderists just for the calender they use (and vice-versa).

However, I am strongly disagreeing with the (probable) reason (s) for and way of carrying out of the calender change.

Something so unifying as a calender should never have been changed unilateraly, and especially not in the way it is done by the church of Finland and certain parishes in Europe (and perhaps the US?).
How can we claim to have unity (albeit in diversity) when we do not even celebrate our Lord's Ressurection on the same day?

Yes, personally I am in favor of the new calender, but I deeply regret the divisions it's introduction have caused.

In Christ,

Makis

Glory to Jesus Christ!

This is indeed good news, welcome to the Church  I am also Antiochian, I was received last year on the sunday before palm sunday (the feast escapes my mind right now) after nearly a year in the catechumenate. It is a truly wonderful experience, though your being baptized is a great blessing and an edification of the Holy Church of God (I myself was received by chrismation, being formerly Roman Catholic).

May God bless you with many year, and your reception in to His Body come soon ,

peace,

romiosini

I, for one, am very greatful to God that the new- and old-calendar parishes are able to still endure Holy Lent and celebrate Pascha as one. It's really great. Well, except for that Finland thing, which I don't know much about to begin with
