Interesting News on the JP
on ancient Jewish lands
Maybe that have blocked out the last, say, 1900 years or so. But those lands haven't been 'Jewish' in quite some time.
"the descendants of the crucifiers of the Lord Jesus Christ, actual crucifiers of your people, Sionist [sic] Jewish conquerors of the Holy Land of Palestine."
I'm sure they took this out of context, but really, what is untrue about it?
I also find ironically hilarious the the JP owns lands that important Jewish state builds are on.
I kinda wonder why his election has be approved by the Jews in the first place?
Dear Daniel,
I kinda wonder why his election has be approved by the Jews in the first place?
According to an article on this subject in a Dutch newspaper:
According to a law made in the 6th century by emperor Justinian, the governement of the Holy Land has the right to approve or to reject the appointment. In the case of Irineos the Israeli governement tried first to get his name removed from the list of candidates. When that did'nt worked, a boycot followed.
The Partriarch himself said at his enthronement: "I am not pro-Palestinian, not pro-Israel, not pro-whatever, I am just pro-God". Jordan and the Palestinian Authority did accept his appointment.

Hope this is a good enough answer.

Having worked in Government security I can tell you that the news report read likes KGB propaganda and I suspect it comes not from Jewish sources but from politically minded Christians. Of course I don't have proof and I am not going to get involved in this filth spread about a holy Patriarch.
The Church is Jerusalem has been under seige for 2000 yrs. This is not new. During the Turkish occupation it was possible to have the Christian leaders murdered at the request of non-Moslem interest groups. Nothing has changed it would seem. Opposition to His Holiness Irenaeos's election to the Patriachal Throne came not just from members of Israel's Cabinet but also from homosexuals and ecumenists and other vested interests in appropriating the realty of the Holy Land.

OK, now I'm curious. Why would homosexuals and ecumenists even care about whom gets appointed as the Patriarch of Jerusalem. Is the JP considered to be influential enough that these two groups should/would fear repercussions?
