St. John the Forerunner and wings

Post by OrthodoxyOrDeath »

The most common instruction I hear concerning the wings of the Forerunner depicted in his icons are that they are there to represent him as a messenger of the Lord.

I have also been told that they depict him as an angel because he replaced Lucifer as the first among the angels. Does anyone have any information regarding this?

Representative of a messenger is what I have heard too. Archangel Michael, even though he is of the bottom class of angels replaced Lucifer as head of the angels as I understand it.
