CGW, I believe that thisis part pf the passage you are looking for. The passage in its entirety is John 15:18-27.

John 15:18-21 (ONT) If the world hate you, ye know that it hath hated me before it hath hated you. If ye were of the world, the world would love its own: but because ye are not of the world-but I chose you for Myself out of the world--therefore the world hateth you. Keep on remembering the word which I said to you, 'A slave is not greater than his lord. ' If they persecured Me, they will also persecute you; if they kept My word, they will keep yours also, But all these things they will do to you for My name's sake, because they know not the One Who sent Me.

I can post the enitre passage if you desire.

Dear OOD,

They should come to America where they make $125,000/year!

SAY WHAT??????
That would be about $ 9.000 a month (based on 14 salaries)?
Average salary here is not even a tenth of that, while I doubt that the cost of living is much less here than in the US  :ohvey:
I sincerely doubt if even the average bishop over here makes such an amount.

It is not nearly as costly to live in teh villages as it is in Athens as you know. And things have changed dramatically in the last 10-20 years with regard to the cost of living and salaries.

Depending ofcause if you have, as your cousin does, other sources of "income".
And as for the dramatical changes, absolutely true, but deffinately for the worse.
Since the introduction of the euro, prices have skyrocketed while salaries remained the same.

In Christ,

Makis

***It's time for The Church as a whole to get on wioth saving souls and stop worrying about what happened in 1920. I see no spiritual value in getting hung up on nit-picky little things. but that's just me. I acknowlecdge the right of anyone to pic apart the Holy church for whatever reason pleases them.

 NIT-PICKY? What happened in 1920 is a monumental event in orthodox history. Please read "About Sergianism" on St. Vladimir's website. http://www.stvladimirs.ca/library/about-sergianism.html
It gives a great overview of the subject and makes clear why there can be no union with the so called "mother church" as it is an instrument of satan.
It is understandable that a new convert such as yourself would not be very familiar :? with this topic especially if you are in one of the world orthodoxy jurisdictions (sects) which have swept things under the rug for the sake of being with the in/modern crowd. Keep reading and searching and eventually you find the path if you remain open in mind and let the holy spirit guide you.
May God bless you and give you courage to have a fruitful orthodox life. /\

Thank you for the blessing. I am one convert who believes that the cold war is over and the sins of the Russian Church during the Soviet era (if in fact they were sins) need to be set aside and that we need to look to the future of our Holy Church, not remain hung up on the past.

Can anyone fathom besides me that whatever the ROC did to survive Soviet oppression could possibly be the work of the Holy Spirit? Or do we presume to know so well the will of God in this matter?

Just a thought.

If ROC means ROCOR + Catacomb Church

If, when you speak of the ROC, you mean the Catcomb Church, I would agree.

If by ROC you mean the MP, you are just continuing the same logic that has been used to try and justifiy, Sergius' 'Declaration'. It doesn't negate that fact that what Sergius did (and those who followed in his footsteps) amounts to apostasy. What does Christ (the Church) have to do with Balial (the Soviets)?

I can understand having bad blood. I can even understand not wanting to be around people of ill repute. But when you guys talk about the MP if I was a member of their Church I would fear for my life in your company. :(
