Orthodox Traditionalism VS. Orthodox Fanaticism

Post by PFC Nektarios »

Slava Isusu Christu!

This seems to be a very big issue, at least in my mind. When is enough just enough. The short period of time I've been on here, ive seen some crazy stuff. This site sometimes reminds me of a Conspieracy Theorist web site, more then a Orthodoxy Message Board.

What is your thoughts on Orthodox Fanaticism/Fundamentalism/Ultra-Extremeist? Seems to me a little crazy to say that the Russian Orthodox Church under the Moscow Patriarchate is the church created by the Soviet Union and run by the KGB! :ohvey:

When does it stop? How "Traditional" Can some one be, seems like there are some here (no names included) that seem like Pharisees, more then any thing, not to offend any buddy.

I forgot to add, I myself would consider myself, "Strict" if any thing.
I believe in following the Old Calendar, and sticking to the Orthodox Canons Strictly myself, but seem like we can go "overboard" Some times.

Umm...perhaps you should get a history book, and read the part about Stalin, and then you would understand where a lot of these things come from...I think it is almost impossible to explain something so complex on a messageboard.

Thank you Natasha,
It is obviously a lot for some one who is new to Russian and orthodox history to comprehend. Many of us here have been learning about this since birth directly from our mothers and fathers who were very close to the situation and whose parents and grandparents experienced first hand the soviet creation of the MP and suffred a martyrs death because of it. 2 of my grandmothers that I know of died at their hands. One had her breasts cut off and was left to die and the other was speared and walked through the town square as she died. Both died for confessing the truth and refusing to accept the antichrist.

Slava Isusu Hristu!

First, many Orthodox Jurisdictions have either been controlled by the State or their hierarchs were chosen by the State.

Second, The Russian Patriarchate has shown that it is indeed sorrowful over the events of the past and that it desires to heal itself.

Third, The Orthodox layfolk in Russia are not accountable for the sins of ommission or commission committed by their predecessors.

The attitude that we can throw Anathema's around so flippantly is not Orthodox, but in a real sense satanic. This un-Orthodox notion of defining where Grace is has permeated the traditional Orthodox community. We must always be considering not how others will appear before the Dread Judgement Seat of Christ, but OUR case before Him. Who will be our attorney before that day. All these things we must consider. We must think: are we attending Liturgy every Sunday and Holy Days, are we attending all the other Services. What about the Domestic Church? What about Charity and alms? What about the poor? I can bear witness that working with the poor is such a joy and a blessing. I make meals on Saturdays and Sundays at our local soup kitchen. This is the work of Christ! We get so wrapped up in the political battles of the Church that we fail to see that these battles are the works of Hellfire! What about our Lord's poor, hmm? We must take the power of the Liturgy and other services and transform them into energy to help the poor. Satan desires so dilligently to sift us like wheat with these issues that if he can take up our time with them we will not have time for the Lord's work. During this Philip's Fast may we who are Orthodox live the life of Jesus truly and help those in need.

In Our Lord and God and Savior Jesus Christ!
