Also, why were you saying "communion prayers" when the priest was not there?

I'm not sure, to be honest. I'm not familiar enough with the Orthodox liturgies to know which ones are communion prayers and which are not. The service was printed out in a special booklet, which was given to me at the ...

Wow, Joasia, this is almost breathtaking.

Did you read my original post before you launched into this screed?

I honor the Virgin. I know that she prays for us. But I had real problems with the specifics of the liturgy in question, specifically with making her a source of blessings and salvation ...

This past Sunday, I was at an Antiochean parish, where the Typica was celebrated, because the priest was at the Antiochean convention. This prayer was in the service:

I think it's the nature of internet discussion groups that it gets a bit heated at times. It doesn't trouble me, nor make me think less of Orthodoxy. (You should see the heat on the Lutheran lists ... : ) When we feel strongly about the truth, there will be heated discussions ...

Thanks for the heads-up regarding the ROCOR. That's the type of guidance I'm seeking.

And -- even as a Lutheran -- I would agree about the one's communion being one's faith. It's important to remember that.
