My fiancee is fascinated by that "quaint" Filipino custom of actual crucifixions on Good Friday. Personally, I'm apalled by it. I think this is a great chapter (and section) for her to read.

As a member of the CAtholic Church, who grew up a Latin Catholic, I've never heard this before. Whatever it is, it is most decidedly not a part of Church teaching and most likely comes from the fringe. You yourself even said much of it springs from private revelation.

This book is about taking up our cross and following Christ. The prosperity of the world could be a cross to bear for some, but it is not the focus of the book to say riches or poverty is good.
